2Tall 185g - Build

Installed the new skimmer from Adam last night, an SRO3000I and its already doing its job! This is the third skimmer I have run on this system and should be the last. It is replacing a BM NAC7 that worked well, but the ever increasing bio load, it could not keep up.

Going by the measurements alone, I was not 100% sure this thing would even fit, but the fit is perfect with no room to spare! Just when I thought I reached my space limits....haha

This should be the final kick this system needs to further stabilize the nitrate levels AND allow more livestock.

I will get some more pics of the DT with all the new corals and fish soon.

The 2 dosing jugs are from BRS and are perfect size and fit for my sump area:

You can't see all the actual equipment crammed in there:
BRS dual reactor
ETSS Skimmer overflow container
Air/pH scrubber filter for skimmer
BM-TO1 Doser
2 - 4L dose containers
1 - 2000ml dose container
Iwaki MD40 CL pump
Reeflo Snapper pump
SRO 3000I skimmer

Looking good BUGS!!!! Lots of stuff down below!!! Nice ETSS Skimmer overflow container. How do you like it? Does the carbon really help with the smell? I went ghetto and got a 1.25gal BPA free slim container from Walmart... drilled a hole... used a grommet and put a tube in it. Than I unscrewed the container valve lid and glued/epoxied a ziplock tuberware container with a bag of carbon in it.... :)

double check the cup. doesn't look like it is sitting completely in all the way on the back side near the plumbing.

I couldn't tell when I looked at it from my phone, but on the computer I can.

Good catch! It wasn't seated all the way:thumbsup:

Nibrown9 - yes, planning on keeping the BM skimmer for now; planning on using it for my near future Cardiff build. Will let you know if I change my mind.

Thanks!
Ain't nothing wrong with ghetto, especially if it is hidden out of sight :)

Added a 7" Orange Shoulder Tang and he has added some good movement to the tank; all the other fish follow him around. Total fish count now 8, will be getting a few more, not sure what yet. Will also be transferring my 8" Squamosa clam and Lavender Tang over from the 55g in due time.

The new SRO3000I skimmer is doing a great job pulling out some of the most Stinky skim I have ever smelled! This tank finally has perfect water parameters, thanks to the recent MaxCap RODI and SRO3000I.

Still have not skinned the stand, may be doing something different with it...stay tuned

Edge protector - I cut 3/8" tubing and slipped it over the acrylic edges of my sumps to protect it from me as those edges can be cracked very easily!

I knew you would be happy with the skimmer.

To bad you couldn't fit the neck cleaner, it really made that thing work even better.

congrats on your parameters. It makes it so much easier when they're spot on!

As always pics look good, oh and your tank too!

Thanks!

Finally starting to see some coral growth, but it has been slow. Maybe now I can support some SPS in this tank.

Ok, I have officially given up on the BRS dual reactors!
They clog up way to quick and I feel the chambers are not big enough to do the job correctly, at least for me.

I have ordered two MR1 reactors made by Nextreef and chose them for two reasons:
1) They are made in USA
2) I've had a MR1 Shorty running BioPellets for the last 12 months in my 55 with no problems.

IMO, reactors made from RO canisters should be used for RO...:)

Will be using all JG fittings and will post pics when installed.

I will be interested in what your experience with the MR1 proves to be. In three weeks I'll be setting up some SRO MF2000 media reactors. They look to be comparable reactors.

I have BRS reactors for the new FRAG tank but am wondering if it's worth setting those up now...

Roy, I almost ordered that Octopus reactor, but decided to go with Nextreef. My BioPellet Nextreef reactor has been a set it and forget reactor and the input flow come down the middle and feeds evenly to the bottom, unlike others that input and feed to the bottom. Did that make any sense....:fun5:
I do like the build quality of Reef Octopus products though.

Tagging along, would love to know how the MR1 ( I assume XL) work. I run two PB 550 and one 150. Haven't had any issues with them but the Nextreef stuff has a quality built look to them.

Hard to not go with something that's been good to you!

In talking with Carlos (and some of the folks that have followed his advise already) I'm actually hoping I can find the culprit for nitrates and phosphates and won't need the reactors in the end. I got one of the BRS GFO/Carbon reactors from someone who no longer needs them because they managed to get rid of the problem at the source.

A high bioload (lots of fish) might be the culprit in some cases. Thus requiring cleaning assistance with reactors or multiple skimmers. I just added an ASM G-3 skimmer to the sump to see if a second skimmer would help. One is dry and one is wet. Still dialing them in.

Might be tough for you Roy, you have a lot of fish that love to eat.
I've been running without the BRS for @ 3 months now. I guess that means i need to add more fish.

Although, if i ever need a reactor, that nextreef does look nice. And it's got bugs seal of approval :twitch:
