2Tall 185g - Build

Might be tough for you Roy, you have a lot of fish that love to eat.
I've been running without the BRS for @ 3 months now. I guess that means i need to add more fish.

Although, if i ever need a reactor, that nextreef does look nice. And it's got bugs seal of approval :twitch:

Yep. Time to add more fish!

I'll have to come up with a new reactor design and get the "Bugs Seal Of Approval" stamp for it. Would be a winner!

FYI, I charge for my official Seal of Approval...:clown:

The company I was ordering the reactors from (Horticultural.com) no longer carries this reactor... I really hate it when a company has something posted and they do not have it in stock!! Oh well, will not order from them again!
Reordered from MD, they will arrive tomorrow and I will get them installed with pics.
:smurf:

Here are a few updates of the tank. Starting to grow out some and will be getting more coral at this weeks FRAG auction.

The MR1 reactor arrived today and I hooked it up, I also hooked up my MR1 Shorty reactor to run GFO; GAC will run in the big, newer one. I don't see the need for bigger reactors than these for running GFO and GAC, in fact I believe the MR1 Shorty would be sufficient for both media. Also, the bigger reactors will not fit in my limited area...

My plan now is to get another Shorty and use two of them for GFO/GAC, then use the bigger MR1 for Bio Pellets. I believe this tank will benefit from Bio Pellets.

Both reactors are ran off of the Reeflo Snapper return pump with plenty of flow/pressure remaining to power another reactor - gotta love the Reeflo pumps! Both reactors are controlled with gate valves, not the POS ball valves. I'm replacing the ball valves as I go and will never use them again!!

I did a simple mod to these reactors using the plastic disc canvas which I trimmed to fit tight. These will help keep the media in and will also be used in the Bio Pellet reactor instead of the sponges. These can be bought at Hobby Lobby FYI.

The reactor comes with barbed fittings, but I replaced with JG fittings and used all 1/2" JG fittings/plumbing to tie into the system.

I swear I get more and more long winded the older I get.... enough yapping, here's the pics!

Tank was looking extra nice, thought I'd do another video.

I have nicknamed the Orange Shoulder Tank, Snow Globe....
Enjoy!

After a week of running GAC and GFO in these Nextreef reactors, I'm sold!! The media is still tumbling, no bricking, no flow reduction. Day/night difference over the inferior BRS style RO reactors!

Going to swap out the BRS reactors on my 55g with these.

I highly recommend NextReef reactors!
:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Did I mention they are made right here in the good ole US of A?! :love2:

Nice mod bugs! Do you think this stuff would work for use with Purigen? And do you know if they sell it in sizes with smaller holes?

This is the only hole size I seen at Hobby Lobby.

Maybe you can find a distributor that sells it by the 500' roll......:)

Roy, I actually had some smaller grid plastic canvas sheets that my sister gave me last year. The white one on the left is the size of the disc's I used above; the other two have a smaller grid. The sheets pictured, I would assume, are also available at Hobby Lobby.

I will cut and use the small grid sheets next time I change out the GFO/GAC and see how it does.

Such a clean setup I'm jealous man , lol glad the reactors are working great good to know !

Thanks!
I always try to make clean PVC joints with no primer or glue showing, but have not mastered that yet, probably never will... This is what bugs me when I look at the pics haha

Hey, I just noticed, this tank is now 12 months old!
I feels like I started it 3 years ago haha

Thanks to everyone that has followed my build!!

A whole year! Congrats, and it's a great looking set up.

I'm coming up on a year with my first salty tank!
