3 blonde naso's not eating

I just purchased 3 blonde naso's on 8-19-13 . they are one male about 6" and two female's about 3". I have a 220 gallon tank with a 75 gallon refuguim a 30 gallon sump and a bioball sump totaling about 350 gallons. all peramiters are within spec. so now to the question . they haven't eaten since I got them. some light pecking at alge on the rocks but that's it . last night I bought garlic extreme and soaked some brown and some green nori in it . I placed both pieces in the tank on separate clips at either end of the tank. still no eating . woke up this morning and both clips haven't been touched. I have 2 anthias , 2 gold stripe marrons . and 2 chromis and a snowflake eel. so the tank is not over stocked. any help would be appretiated. thank you

Give it time for them to eat. I would question why 3 naso's, you are asking for trouble especially since the 6" is ggetting more mature and might develop a dislike for the other two. Adding 3 is a good move in that it spreads aggression. I have 6 tangs in my 240g: naso, achilles, purple, kole, hep, powder brown so 3 in a 220 is no problem but you will notice that I only have 2 that are in the same family the PB and Achilles. You also might try some 2 little fishes purple nori, my fish prefer it to green, its like candy. Chop some up by feeding into a power head, sometimes that triggers eating. Good luck.

Did you purchase them from a LFS? Were they eating at the place they came from? I would never purchase any fish without seeing them eat.Try mysis, brine, live brine anything to get them to eat. I had bad luck with two different nasos that were around the 3" mark. They both picked at the rock but I was never able to get them to eat anything and they died, I hope you have better luck then me. As far as having 3 tangs of the same species, that shouldn't be a issue if introduced all together.

I will try to find the purple nori. thanks. I chose 3 just to be different lol. im looking to get some more tangs at a later date but I will probably look at 2 or more of them too. I see very few tanks with multiple tangs. I know there is a reason for that but I would like to try. I saw a guy with multipule purple tangs in his tank . looks cool when they all swim together. any other help would be great I just want them to eat and be healthy.

I have a 210, I think those 3 alone more than max out your tank.

i ordered them from the lfs and had them put in the same tank. i tried live brine with a drop of extreme garlic last night. the other fish loved it. one of the females ate a few but the male and other female ate none. i will buy more tonight to see if they are ready yet. i did not see them eat at the lfs . rookie mistake. i saw them picking at the alge and assumed they would be fine again rookie mistake.

I have 3 purples and 5 yellows... Not something I would try with nasos though. Good luck with the group. If two pair up remove the third.

As far as the eating goes, nasos ime are relatively picky. Mine does not eat meaty foods, really only likes nori. He wouldn't eat that until I introduced him to my DT and he saw the other fish eating it. My best advice to you is to tear pieces off the clip and try to get the fish eating them out of the water column. The TLF purple seaweed comes apart in the water so that might entice them as well. Are they active apart from not eating? Now that I'm thinking about it, one of the only foods mine would accept in qt was formula 2 flakes. They can't resist :) good luck.

Take some Nori and wrap some mysis in it like a sushi roll, put some garlic on it, grab some rubber bands
And start tieing them to the live rock in different locations throughout the tank.
If they are picking off the live rock then they probably don't know how to eat out of the water volume or off a clip.

If they rip at the Nori then the mysis will release and hopefully the Nasos will eat them out of the water volume.
Good luck.

thanks for all the advice i will try it all . they are active in the tank swimming around playing with the marrons. when i get home i will try come of the tricks you guys have advised. hope they work

so I got home from the lfs yesterday with purple seaweed brine shrimp and a couple of small pieces of live rock. put garlic extreme on the purple , brown and green seaweed just in case they liked one more than another. put brown and green on 2 clips and purple and brown on separate live rock pieces to sink to the bottom. also took some feather culerpra attached it to a rock also. still no eating . in getting worried the females are getting skinny. any other help would be great . and thanks for the advice so far.

Did you tear pieces into the water column? Are there other fish in the tank that they are watching eat?

^+1 your best chance will be the nasos watching the other fish go crazy over the food which will then cause a feeding response in them. Keep trying everything you have, different combos and in different areas of the tank. Were they PP before you got them? They could have internal worms causing them to not gain weight and look skinny

I do have other tank mates but no other tangs or fish that eat seaweed . I also feed pellets , flakes , brine and Mysis. they did mess with the purple till the hermit crabs ate the bottom and it floated away. I will keep trying . just a little frustrating. thanks for the help. this might sound stupid but should I maybe purchase a small tang that is already eating nori so they can see him eat ?

3 tangs that get 16 inches, already maxes out what you can have for tangs. Larger naso tangs are very hard to get eating sometimes.

Put selcon on the nori, then all the fish will eat it. I have a 6 line and a chromi eating it.

I will check my lfs for the selcon . again thank you guys for the help. I don't want them to die. ill keep you updated

ok so I got them eating culerpa from my fuge. now how do I get them to eat something else . eventualy I will run out of culerpra . im still putting in nori but I don't see them eating at it ?
