I've been in the hobby for quite a while and if you read my build thread I've been planning, researching and building this tank for the past three years and finally got it up and running. In no way shape or form did I fill up a glass box with water and expect a reef tank.
Here is when everything was added.
7/9: water
7/19: chromis
7/21: cycle complete (NH4: 0, NO2: 0)
And yet, you added a fish before the '12 day cycle' was 'complete' !
could it be some kind of gill disease that has no signs of showing like ich maybe they were infected at the store? and maybe the transportation made it worse... just throwing that out there .....all three brand new and all three die,,, you didn't find any purple capes or kool aid ?? just kidding
I'm a firm believer in a cycle fish to produce waste. This is very common.
Good for you. Maybe you should change your beliefs so your fish don't die in the future?
You know bhsgk everyones entitled to their own opinion, just not their own facts.
Seems reefer54 has the same opinion as me aswell.
My opinion is that your some kind of snob, because you seemed pretty rude, but hay that's just my opinion.
Were all here to learn and or help, so chill out.... Telling me I can't post...
No. You have no idea what you're talking about. You're mixing up quite a few things and none of them are applicable in this case. You have a lot to learn before you should be answering questions. Feel free to start your own threads with your own questions in the New To The Hobby sub-forum, but please refrain from answering questions about things you know nothing about.
Sometimes they came from the LFS with a condition (did you ask them to feed them before purchase)
Sorry to hear of your loss.

This WAS very common... however in the 21st century, it is frowned upon!
Frowned upon by some, not all. This is your opinion, not fact.
If you wish to continue being a 'firm believer' in this, it would be a good idea to know how to do it right...which would not involve adding your 'cycle fish' at the middle or end of the cycle!
Seems as though I did it just right because the fish served its purpose and is still alive.
As for your question of dying fish...IMO, there is the chance that the tank was not fully cycled ...you continued to add LS...those additions continued/delayed the cycle and survived it, but the 3 new fish could not handle it!
If I've just been continuing/delaying the cycle by adding fish than why haven't I had ammonia or nitrite since 7/21? Also the Orange Spot Blenny was added two days prior and is still alive.
Don't usually get involved in threads like this however I can't help myself. You are advocating putting an animals life at risk when there are other proven methods that can be used. Best case you have shortened the life span of the fish and seriously harmed it. Worst case would have been the death of the fish.
This is frowned upon by the majority of people just as dog fighting is. If you want to take a more extreme example. I'm sure some people feel slavery is okay, though it is an opinion. Obnoxious example, however I can't get past someone knowingly wanting to hurt an animal to accomplish a goal that could be done both without harming an animal and also more cheaply.
