Hi Roger:
I was wondering if there is a way for me to see pics of the Reefpack 500 in a 30 gallon cube oceanic, maybe you can direct me to who may have one. The reason is I live in Saint Paul, MN. and have not seen any LFS with any ofthe reefpacks.
I know I want to buy TUNZE for my tank, but not decided if to have the reefpack 500 or the 200 nano, or maybe something else from tunze you think that could work?

I think the 500 may be a bit bulky in a 30cube. I would use the nano. The other way to go would be just use a 9005 Skimmer. I have used a 500 in a 55cube and that looked OK but I don't think it would look good in anything smaller.
 
I think I will do the nano 200, then.
I want to look into the osmolator, is that an option. Is it messy with cables coming out the back. Do you have picks of the osmolator by itself on a tank?
 
I am using a ReefPack 500 in an Oceanic 37 gal. I dont think its very obtrusive. You can hardly see it in my tank with all my live rock. In time it will be covered in coraline algea anyway.Its about the same size as a built in "reef ready" overflow.
Its a great fiter sytem.......almost too good. I am suprised at how much detritus the filter is able to cope with. With the flow of the ReefPack 500.........the surface skimming is VERY good.........it keeps the surface of my tank cleaner than a Lifreef hang on overflow box did.The skimmer is great..........I have converted my Reefpack into a 9010 skimmer for more skimmate production, but it really isnt necessary........the 9005 is the way it comes from Tunze, and it is more than sufficient, bone stock.
Dont forget about the osmolater top off system.........thats just about included for FREE.........with the 500. Its the best top off system I have ever used, and I have had quite a few dosing pumps in the past. The osmolater is "automatic" and keeps your tank water level within a fraction of an inch! It uses an optical sensor to determine where the water level should be........and keeps it there! It also incorporates a high water level float.......to shut off the metering pump if something should go haywire.
Its really the total filtration/skimmer/top-off package for a reef tank, and I would highly recommend it! I wished I would have tried it out before all of the other equipment, I have...........thats now sitting in the closet! No worrys with a sump, or overflowing anything. Can you tell that I really like my ReefPack 500!
If you want me to post a few pictures to see what a 500 looks like in a 37, I can, just let me know.

Herbie, that the way I feel, I think the 500 in the way to go as well, but certainly I am concern about having enough room in the tank. It will be great to see some pictures, cause no LFS around here has it for me to see it, if you are able to take pics, can you show how does it look from the side, the front and on top to see how much does the cup protrudes from the tank. Thanks a lot in advance....maybe Roger can get you some discount on something later for the good marketing...lol
 
I have the Reefpack 200 in my Oceanic 37 with an Osmolator. It is a tidy piece of kit. I have seen the 500 in a 37 and it was a bit obtrusive for my taste. The 500 is over twice the size, although the integrated osmolator is sweet. I am all about internal filtration, who needs all that complicated plumbing and flood risk? If you can afford the 500 go for it if you don't need the room. I like my 200, either way you can't go wrong.
 
Smatter thanks for the input, is there a place i can see some pics of your system. I have tried making little models of how it will look but not sure how much is outside/inside the tank etc.
I will also like to see how is our osmolator setted up, thanks in advance

I am interested in this discussion as well. I currently have a 30 cube that I have sunk a fortune into w/ custom sump, internal overflow, Euroreef skimmer and such. I would like to set up a 29gal prop tank to grow out frags before I upgrade to a large tank next year. Iwas interested if the nano pack would work for the 29gal. I already have the tank/stand/canopy. Just need to add light and filter/ skimmer. Any thoughts are welcomed!

Is the ATO in both of the models? Why isn't it mentioned in the product specs? It mentions that there is a storage tank, but never says what it is for.
 
My Nano Reefpack did not include the Osmolator. It does come packaged in a bucket that is pre-drilled to accomodate the Osmolator. I spoke to Roger at Tunze USA and he said the magnetic holder that comes with the Nano interferes with the sensor so he was unable to incorporate it into it's design. The unit is small and effective, only 4"x4", and the magnetic holder makes placement a snap. I mounted the Osmolator sensors with the included hardware and they occupy very little space.

Herbie, yours looks pretty sweet with your aquascaping, much better than the last one I saw. I just wanted a more open tank with less rock for my corals to grow, so I chose the 200. I like these systems so much my next will have a 500.

I will try to attach a picture if I can figure out how to do it. It keeps saying it is too big.

I had that problem in the past with my pics, but what I did was decrease the megapixels in your camara, hopefully that will work, cause I cant wait to see some pics.

Well I placed my orders and things should be arriving here at the end of this week and some the next week.
I got the reefpack nano 200 and the osmolator from marine depot and the current USA sunpod 150w HQI from pet mountain....I am finishing the pseudohood/lateral cover am bulding and then SPLASH, SPLASH back in the game

Smatter, so you just have to mount the osmolator on one side of the tank and the reefpack 200 on the other side of the tank? The magnet is different in the 500 I suppose?

You have to use two magnets and one of the magnets needs to be custom mounted at the bottom so it does not interfere. Magnet mounts are not included with the 500. The float sensor needs to be a few inches away from the magnet.
