$30 Petco Haddoni

Last Saturday I happened to be in Pasadena visiting my chiropractor and since Petco was in the vicinity I stopped to check it out.

Among the unhealthy fish and nems, I spotted a moribund small Haddoni, maybe 3", an other carpet that seemed to be an extremely bleached sick Gigantea about 7" and a bleached but apparently healthy striped Haddoni about 6" wide. For $30 it was hard to resist.
It was stuck on the glass and it took the Petco guy a good 5 minutes to carefully detach it. On my way home, I was already assuming I would have to put it in the HT with cipro, however given how sticky it was, I decided to try placing it in the DT first.
I prepared the right spot for it and it settled in less than 5 minutes. As s test I tried to feed it some scallop and to my amazement it devoured the small pieces closing on them fast like a mouse trap!

I am keeping a watchful eye for any warning signals for the next few week, but so far so good. It might not be a fancy blue or red haddoni, but you can't beat $30

Saturday, as soon as I placed it in the DT.

Sunday looking bleached, but good.

Today, just after feeding.

Wow that is a great price for a beautiful specimen. Keep us updated on the progress but looks like you will treat it nicely. I would love to find something like this for that price..

30 bucks for that guy! wow what a steal for sure. My petco has them some times but they always come in in a cloudy bag for some reason....

Looks like you got a steal! I've tried buying livestock that didn't look that healthy for cheap from Petco, and have had mixed results. But glad it worked for you!

Thank you. Yeah, I've been lucky, cause as we all know they can go downhill very fast during the acclimation period in a new tank, especially when bought from a place like Petco. Hopefully it will keep getting better. I've been feeding it every other day to ensure it gains as much energy as possible. I have it under radion gen3 pro, so hopefully it will start regaining more color as the zooxanthellae get replenished.
The light green color appears bleached (hard to capture faithfully with a cameraphone), but I have noticed already an improvement at day 5.

Now my goal is to find a smallish Gigantea, (even better at $30) :bounce3:, so I can have a 4 species tank with Bta's, Haddoni, Magnifica and Gigantea. The Gigantea is the elusive specimen so far. These days I plan to look around a few LFS looking for one. I also have a mobile HT in my car plugged to an inverter for powering a heater and mini koralia so in case I do find one, I can dose it with cipro right out of the LFS driving back home.

I blame it on this forum for turning me into an anemone addict :D

Stoked this went to a home that cares about nems. SO many random people buy from petco and don't have a clue! Good job saving it!!!

That was me day 1. Couple months later doing well after one rough spell. Great combo color, looks very healthy.

Thanks. After 10 days it's doing quite well and regaining color. Greens are getting a bit more saturated. The color combo reminds me of military camo :)
