300 DD lighting help

I have my 300 DD up and running. Currently have LED's over it but I'm not getting light spread like I want and I'm thinking of going to MH. Anyone make some recommendations on a lighitng set up for an SPS tank?

Ballast, reflector, bulb types?

I know its not what you asked but can you give us an idea of the number and type of LEDs along with their relative positions? Do you have a build thread for the fixture or was it store bought?

I've very happy with my current setup on my 300DD. I run 3 x 250W Phoenix 14k SE bulbs on Galaxy ballasts w/Lumen Max Elite reflectors. I also have 48 RB LED's for blue supplementation.

That was along the lines of what I was thinking.

3 x Galaxy ballast (select a watt) and phoenix 250 se bulbs.

i'm running the phoenix 250 se on my frag tank and really like it. I figure if I got the select a watt ballast I could always go 400w radiums later. I can't decide on the reflector. A friend of mine said he didn't care for the light distribution he is getting with the elites compared to other reflectors he has used. Also I wasn't sure if one of the large reflectors would be a better option.

Brian , Why don't you go with a DIY LED build . I am thinking about going that way , with my new tank . The High power bills are killing me .

Unfortunately, I don't have the time right now to put into it. I'm hesitant to make the change to MH. I really like the LED and have never had the need for a chiller on my tank.

I am running 3 400 watt 20k Radiums on my 300 DD. Probably am going to add led's for supplimentation. SPS is growing well.

I have read that some people running MH dont use chillers. I would love if someone could let us know that have MH if temp is really that big of a factor. Of will fans on the water surface be good?

On my 225 gal . I run 3X 250 Watt MH + 4 160 Watt VHOs , and no chiller . I have a large fan over my sump . I am doing an up grade to a 300 DD , and I am thinking very hard about going with LED lighting . I think LEDs are the future for Reef Tank Lighting .

Leds may be the future, But i think they are a little bit off yet. I am not going to spend that kind of dough when it seems that LED tech changes almost month to month.

I run 3 250's DE hqi on luminmax elites. and t-5 for actinic supp
