300 gallon shallow tanked fish room build

What started out as consolidation into a custom, rimless, 72x24x15" Planet Aquarium build, has quickly over the past year, spiraled out of control.

The link to said build for those interested:

Anyways, I found my sand-bed completely littered with frags like most of us do and I thought to myself, "how cool would it be to have Planet build me a matching mini-me frag tank?"..

So, the order was placed with Planet for a 24x24x15" rimless and 36" tall Coastal stand matching the big tank.

The mini-me came in and it looked great sitting next to the 6', but something was off and it just looked unbalanced; and for the next week or so weighed heavily on my mind. (I have OCD)

With that said, I ultimately found myself with twins shortly thereafter.

The frag tank direction quickly flew out the window and with 10' of tank on a single wall just made my head hurt with all the options.

It was decided after discussing with the wife; we would start with one shallow cube being our Maroon pair's new home and the other her Spotcinctus's.

Seeing how there wouldn't be a frag tank between either of the two, I needed one BAD; so I resurrected a 30x20x10" acrylic build I placed on the back burner.

Long story short, the dedicated frag tank is at max capacity and I find myself awaiting delivery of yet another Planet tank this time in 36x24x15".

Attached is the plan for the ever evolving fish room. The 10' of three tanks will share a Trigger Systems Sapphire 39" sump with a Vectra L1 handling return and reactor duties.

The new, 36x24x15" will utilize a Trigger Systems Sapphire 26" and the Vectra M1 currently running the 6'.

Stay tuned.

Here is the room currently as it is.

I need to move the treadmill out, slide things down and add the second 24x24x15 on the right side.

The rock work for the twins. (Pukani)

I have constructed two rockscapes for the 36x24x15" peninsula that is in the process of being built.

Not sure which one to go with as of now... Maybe I need to see them in tank then decide; either way, feel free to share your thoughts.

The first like the rest is all Pukani; the second is a mixed bag of Pukani, Reef Saver and Tonga remnants.

Following along on this thread as well. You changing your profile pic from "greasy" threw me off for a minute LOL

Rock work is going to look great either way. I like the clean open look of the first scape, the second scape is really interesting but a little more piled looking.

Appreciate it!

The 30 pounds of Pukani I ordered for the cubes came in dry and in great, porous shapes.

The second 30 pound order placed a week later came in damp, smelly and consisted of nothing really special (much like the Pukani order for the big tank)

The first two pictures are the same scape, one from the side and one from the top. Kind of a Ying/Yang fitment.

The paper it is on is only 16-18" wide, so keep in mind I will have ~24" in tank.

The last pic is the Frankenstein concoction curing in a standard 20 gallon long.

My goal for this thread is to not drag my feet and to get some water moving.

Picked up a used hydra 52 in black this time, to match and go over my frag tank.

The white 52 that is on it now will be moved to the new peninsula tank to match the others.

(If you happen to ever stumble across this, thanks again Rob!)

Anyways, took a chance on some bland chalice frags my buddy picked up at a fire sale and passed the savings on to me.

After a few weeks in my system they are starting to show some real potential.

Also picked up a small colony of "Mia's pot of gold" Favia that is also doing quite nicely as well a large rock colony of Rhodactis sp - Neon Green shrooms the wife wanted for her tank.

Recently acquired a branching chalice- Pectinia sp just because it was different looking. It currently coloring up.

My friend at the LFS FINALLY fragged his crazy fox chalice for me. Letting it heal before I drop the $.

Now waiting on a piece of "backny" I believe they called it to grow out...

Picked up the Jason Fox - Crazy Fox Chalice. Had a nicer rolled and healed edged.

Also, picked up a Jason Fox - Superman Chalice as well along with another random mariculture branching chalice this time purple with green eyes.

Moorish idol might have to go... Nipping at My rainbow Lobos.

Also, picked acrylic tank up for dirt cheap. 60x14x8"

Not sure what to do with it... since my frag tank is packed...

tank looks great! that is one serious aquarium living fish room you are putting together.

i am putting a 300 gallon tank in a new house i am building and adding a dedicated fish room behind it to house all of the equipment ect...

i am going to go read your thread on the build now...

Thanks!

First, I broke it and second I didn't really have the room a 5' tank

So, I placed yet another order with Planet for a 36x18x10" frag tank for where I do have the room. (Where the 40 breeder QT was)

The peninsula tank "should" be here tomorrow... Not holding my breath though.

Peninsula tank came in... 36x18x15, not 36x24x15". So back it went. Stand was built the same and the edges weren't finished rounded.

See what happens...

Damn looking nice. your frag tank looks better than my DT...
bummer about the wrong size how the hell did that happen? did they ship the wrong tank or build the wrong tank?

I love how your surrounded my tanks...I would not know what tank to look at tho.would get a score neck. .haha

I original drafted up a a 36x18x15 in late February, and dropped it off to be sent out for a quote.

They very next day I spoke with the owner and said to go ahead and make it 24" deep and use the same overflow box the other 3 tanks have. (Dual return)

February 27 came and I received a phone call Due to confusion with the stand along within regards to only requesting a single door and it's placement. This was to match my 24" cubes, but simply 12" deeper to fit the 36" length as it was a peninsula tank.

I already measured, ordered, received and test fitted a trigger 26 sump and 5 gal ATO and even provided mock pictures showing proper fitiment and showing the single door on the side would not be an issue with one of my 24" cube stands.

I assumed all was well and he seemed on the same page.

Two days later on 1 March they quote was sent out, received and the order was placed. Unfortunately it when through as the original draft and not what we discussed in person and over the phone.

He's a good dude, simple mistake and I'm sure he will make it right. Just have to wait even more and wonder how much that additional 6" is going to cost me...

Spoke with the owner, apparently Planet's "new" classic stands come not routed any longer...

They will upon request; which in my world equates to more $$$.

Also, the tank quote like mentioned before was for a 36x18x15 with matching 36" tall stand; instead of the agreed upon 36x24x15, etc...

I can't wait to see how much more 6" is going to cost me...

In the meantime I do have an order in for a glass 36x18x10" frag tank with a "custom" corner overflow... Cost more than the 36x18x15" they sent by mistake... Which is beyond me.

Hopefully it gets here soon... I need the room!

On top of that I'm battling a high alk batch of IO. (Fun times!)

If you don't mind me asking what's a tank like one of those cost a guy?

Off the top of my head:

72x24x15 - $825
24x24x15 - $336
36x18x15 - $368
36x24x15 - (Awaiting quote)
36x18x10 - $410 (no clue why, other than "custom overflow")

Stands are sometimes more than the tanks...
