300 gallon shipwreck

CyclistMT...High praise balderdash, your ability to write and keep it interesting is a great advantage to having people come back to the thread or just look at it once and go on. Cheers, (really I am holding my beer up to you) to the great author in you. Keep up the Mark Twain style of writing I look forward to it. If you get your surge device perfected please share with me I have a space for about a 20 gallon vessel that would be great to shift the water.
I am but a caveman stacking rocks for his own pleasure compared to your realized vision of the shipwreck. I bow before the master.

:artist: < This is you.
:wildone: < This is me.

Ok, maybe that's a bit over the top but seriously man, even if I would of thought of doing something like this, I do not have the skills to pull it off.

Here's a beer back at ya.

Thank you so much for your kind words. Keep an eye out for stuff on the surge. I'll try to get something up on it very soon.

the real fishman..thanks for the compliments. Noticed in your thread line you like octopus you should see what tgunn does with them. Kinda gross.

72olds455..I showed my kid your name and he was like"no way" we are building his 70olds455 as we read/type. Its airbagged, 17's and 18's and a custom dash. Should be top of his heap when done. Thanks for the post and compliment.

Nammy..If you need any advice on welding purchases give me a pm. I am a wood guy at heart me and my kids built a pool table for x-mas two years ago. It was a great family project. We seem to do about 3-5 family projects a year now. Keeps me worn out.

tgunn...Everyone should check out his web page wwaaayyyy cool. Lots of stuff to look at and learn some to. Just dont know if I got the gut for the food recipe. LOL Plug your nose when you put it to the blender.

blufrye3...Very cool to aquire on your part. Did you have a personal here what to do training or was more like here you go lots of luck. Whichever great job on you and your families part. There can be no hijacking here cause were here to listen/read/learn no matter what the subject line at the moment. Those looking for just the tank stuff usually skip to the pictures anyway then backtrack to read. In my opinion of course. I just read youre going to move it upstairs. WOW Lots of work for a furniture move. Scotty beam tank to first level now. Aye Capn. Kirk

CyclistMT..Thanks again my only hope is when it sits in the water for like 6wks I dont come home to a sandpile of a shipwreck. ha ha ha. Murphys law always does the strangest things.

No extra pics tonight been a long work couple days.

I still have no substrate but was thinking about our sand dunes area about 20 minutes away. Its about 1500 acres and is covered in dry sand. If I sieve it and get out the big and bad stuff give it a freshwater rinse it should be okay???? I'm open to suggestions at this point.

Got my bracket welded to the bottom of the linear and all my measurements done. Boy this has been the only time I have been taxed on measurements to get it perfect. When the door goes up the top it has to be perfect so it does not bind and goes all the way to the stop. Then when it goes down it also has to be perfect and not bind and run out to the stop. Got about 1/8 to play with so its trial and oh no whats it doing. stop stop stop. We will get it just takes some time.

I also have a post on the acrylic forum about my tank. It seems it was painted with a spray paint and the laquer got into the seams on the one end and did some microcracking!!! So I am waiting for the experts to give me a hand with that one.

Had to build a fixture to hold the mast upright so I could pack the concrete on it. Tommorrow is the day for that now.

And maybe someday I will learn how to post a smiley they are great ad ons to the wording but I dont know how???? Throw a dog a bone or link???

Thanks everyone for the replies and reading material.

Mike

Oh, I'm not moving in this house. I may be upstairs in the next one. Not sure yet. If I move it up I need a new tank as it would be a room divider and the back of mine is black. Sooooo, maybe a new tank in 2 years. At least I can keep everything in it. As far as help or "sink or swim" I'm dog paddling. I have a huge support team. SWAM, Salt water Addicts of Maine. Rick Oellers, New England Aquarium Service, moved it so I have him for emergencies. I found out I needed a maintenance schedule as a guide, made a list of what had to be done and try to find time to sit and enjoy. If you like something you figure it out. In my case quickly.

Coolest thing ever! Please update frequently! I'm glued to this thread. This is the first time I've actually said out loud while reading one of these threads, "I wish I had that", and I've burned through A LOT of these DIY/NEW TANK threads.

Look! There's the 'forums' directory that keeps getting added in to the URL! No idea why that's happening.

So, as far as smilies, just click on the reply button, and notice the box at the left that has all the smilies in it. Hope these confusing posts aren't too, well, confusing.

Mine is a Cutlass S and is also still being built, it has the following. 455 .030 over C heads ported and polished, flat top forged pistons, cam with 245 lift torker intake, Demon 850 carb, super comp headers, 250 shot of nitrous, fully upgraded suspension, and eaton posi with 3.90 gears. It should be a monster :eek1:

My other car is a 68 GTO convertible that I havent started on yet.

Hi everybody.

And thanks for all the compliments.

A small update tonight and hopefully a larger one tomorrow.

Mast is drying as we speak. A good two hours into it and she's done. Needed to be thicker in my opinion through the concrete that is. The tube inside and trying to rub the mortar through the gutter screen was involved. A few pictures for the masses. Oh and well see if my smile:) works:bum:

CIMG0091.jpg

Had to glue gun the pipes together for some support.

CIMG0092.jpg

All done skimming the concrete now I have to texture it.

CIMG0097.jpg

All done texturing, takes longer to do this and features dont really show till the water dries out later tomorrow.

Thought this was a cool shot with the ship in the tank. I can imagine the guy in the crows nest yelling to the captain. "Lay her to waste captian she's right in our sight's now."

Okay done for tonight tomorrow a new day. We will see if the door gets done tomorrow and check for clearance.

Mephix & oxbeard.... Thanks for the compliments. As to everybody who lurks and reads. Post your thoughts cause I am sure I havent rhought of it yet.

Good Evening folks, Well its quite late here already. Some good progress today with a few pics.

Worked on the inside cabinet facing bedroom. Linear end got a flange welded to it for the door. Most of the facing cabinet work is done with a few exceptions. We have to adjust the linear (again) my son pointed out if we didnt it would travel to far up the cover and lodge against it. At least one of us was thinking!!

Sprayed the mast every hour last night to keep it moist and make the concrete harder as it cures. Bought some braided fishing line at wal-mart and found a chunk of off white acrylic on e-bay. I am thinking (oh no) I can use the line and acrylic to make pieces of sail and line that looks battle worn (so to speak) and tie them to the mast. Kinda like rigging lines and torn sails. We will see if it works.

Tomorrow the plan after the (I gotta work stuff) is to finish the linear door and put it on. There will probably be a few tear down times due to the tv going on the door and the routing of the wiring. I made it easy enough to do this so we could get it right. Then we will take certain sections and stuff them with insulation before putting up permanently. Cheers

We will have to cut back a portion of this to clear the top part of the wall. And once again adjust the height of the actuator.

CIMG0102.jpg

Most of the skinning is on and the tank scooted up to do final fitting of the cabinetry. Side pieces are going to have to change out. Did not realize the back side is seen so well. I have this in a double side same stuff. So we will change it to match.

CIMG0104.jpg

Top shot of cabinet. Nothing on this side will open to under the tank as I wanted it very quite as it is our bedroom view. All this wood is double formica sided wall wood. From what I gather they make it as partitions and have what ever grain or formica look they want on both sides. These are leftovers I get from a building supply clearence place. I buy a pallet at a time for 9.97 a sheet. And there oversized at 49 by 97 inches. So far I have got 3 sheets in the cabinet for about 30 bucks. Not bad!!!

Lots to do tomorrow. Have a read, make a post, talk to you soon.
Mike

Would be nice to have a viewing pane window similar to a ships in the end near the shipwreck. KInda gives a different view as if you are looking through a real ship, just thinking here.

Nice to see a unique design.

I'll be tagging along for the ride if you don't mind! I do have a question though. Where will the mast go? It looks too long to stand upright. (Sorry if I missed it in the thread)
