300 gallon shipwreck

A little update.

blissbsm...Thanks for being interested.

tanya72806...here they are.(pics that is)

boozeman...I wish I had a vessel large enough to do that but short of soaking it in the hot tub (wifes gonna frown on that) I did not have any where to do that. My plan is to do a freshwater leak test anyway. And I will have that going for about two weeks to fine tune everything. I think that will take care of any phosphate issues. Thanks!!!

Here are a few pictures of some small progress..

Pics of the tank with the ship in it. Yeeaaahhhh!!!! And it just barely fit through the opening on top.

I put in the paper towel roll for comparison.

CIMG0081.jpg

I just realized I have not even posted a full size tank shot. What a goof I am.

Some progress on the cabinet on the bedroom side.

Completed stand with a por-15 coating. Not overbuilt. IT"S OVERKILL. Yes I know. But I've never had anything fail on me once it's done.

Your tank is going to look very nice!

The wreck came out so nice. It looks great in there. You're using sand right? I'll keep checking in.

Matt Rise...can we drive the truck. Cool Avatar. Thanks for the comment. Send me a pm will talk cars.

Konadog...Wow almost had to step up to a bigger truck to tote the stand around. Looks great. Earthquake proof so to speak.

pperez...Thanks, Yes it will have sand in it. Have yet to find the good stuff around here. Seems like you East coast guys get all the breaks.

If anyone in the Washington state area has a substrate they have used (sand type). Give me a pm. Thanks.

Ok I said I would not hold anything back as far as figures go. So tonight I will list out what I've bought and what it's cost me to date. Anyone with a large tank will say wow good deals and those that want a big tank will go. Gee I didnt know it cost so much.. Eyeopeners fur sure.

That's whats in front of me right now I have a few more that I will keep adding as time goes on.

And I really think I am about 1500.00 ahead of most guys on the same size of gallon builds.

My real savings should show when I do the room under the house. I will sub-panel and wire it along with mixing and pouring the concrete floor and do all the wall work. My storage tanks are large and were cheap. So were getting there, all in due time my friends.

My wife is very supportive. I keep telling her it's cheaper than building another Hot Rod. "Like we need one more of those" she'll quip. And my son will perk up and say "Cool another car"

CyclistMT & nyvp...... Thanks for the compliment/comments.

CyclistMt...Is your gallery pics of rocks you made. Awesome cliffs and overhangs. Very cool indeed!!!

nyvp..Really enjoyed your thread. You have a great pool of reefers there. You have a beautiful slice of the ocean that I can only hope to duplicate in my vision.

No progress today. Other jobs first to help pay for the tasks of life. I still have some other pictures hoping to post soon. Most of these will be underneath the house.

During your build did you find yourself sitting in front of a empty tank watching your fish oasis????

Thats where I'm goin.

Great job so far. I love the shipwreck. Make me one? I think you said you were only lighting half the tank, did I miss something?

Hello one and all on this wonderful Monday evening.

Did some minor progress shared with all after customary salutations.

CyclistMT...High praise balderdash, your ability to write and keep it interesting is a great advantage to having people come back to the thread or just look at it once and go on. Cheers, (really I am holding my beer up to you) to the great author in you. Keep up the Mark Twain style of writing I look forward to it. If you get your surge device perfected please share with me I have a space for about a 20 gallon vessel that would be great to shift the water.

blufyre3...Nice full tank shot in your gallery. 9ft long that's awesome. Love the picture frame look. Your profile says you aquired the tank?? Did it come with the house that would be toooo cooooll?? Yes I am putting my two 400's on the non-ship side of tank I was hoping for a subdued area for the fish if they just want to be alone or have a time out so to speak. Fish 1 chasing fish 2 for an hour fish 2 gets tired and goes to the quite side. We will see if it works or it's all hogwash. I'll build you a ship you send me a plane ticket and we go have Maine seafood on me. yyuummm!!!!

Nammy...I marked all the corals I need you to send me out of your gallery. All of them. ha ha They all look great. I take you get to retire if you have 23 months to go. Aw, I'd really like that, but not gonna happen. Work till I die. Whole van damn family like that. Did you build the stand in your gallery. Nice job!!! I love to work with wood but metal makes me the money.

Ok, A few pictures of some redo work. Sometimes the drill gets ahead of the brain. But easily fixed with a sawzall. Gotta love the binford tools. MORE POWER!!!!

CIMG0085.jpg

This was enclosed but in looking at the overflows to be put on the tank. The wall was to tight. So out it came. Now the door to the right that leads into our bedroom is getting relocated in the remodel to another wall. So that door will close off and that area becomes my access to my equipment room under the house.

CIMG0087.jpg

This being the opposite wall I took off this also for my plumbing to come up to the top side of the tank and over. When I was looking for a tank 7ft. was the max with like two inches to spare. Didnt think about the plumbing. Duh!

CIMG0089.jpg

This is one of my 400's on the elcheapo light rail. Its a work in progress I tried to use vinyl wrapped steel cable but the damn things wobble around like there is a earthquake going on. I really like the adjustability of those cool upe- downe ones I may have to look into those.

CIMG0088.jpg

Here is my mast for the ship ready to concrete. Lots of wire ties some gutter guard and a pvc pipe complete with a crows nest at the top. It's going to lay over in the tank as if it fell off the ship over time. If the rockwork deams as such it may incorperate itself into it also. Works in progress. Concrete it tomorrow.

Still no substrate lady at neighboring town's quarry looked at me and said you might try Home Depot or Lowe's. Like I didnt start there first lady. Aw well things fall into place sometimes all at once.

Thanks for reading everybody.
Come visit, read and post next time.

Seafood

Seafood

I'll pay for your ticket, you pay for your wife. We have a guest room and all the seafood you can stuff in. I acquired the tank from someone who we built a house for. He had several tanks and when we finished the main house he asked my husband to come and finish the basement for a billiard, bar and tank viewing room. Soooo the project began. He ordered a Tenecor 330 and gave the specs to my husband to build the stand. Done. The tank was at the end of the bar, perpendicular and the pool table was around the corner. (the room was L-shaped) He combined his tanks into that one. Matt had been a boater for years and missed being at the marina so they decided to sell the house and buy a bigger boat so they could live on it. They had been in the house about a year. We were actually building our new one when they decided to sell. We moved in on Feb. 1, 2006 and proceeded to finish our basement in a hurry to become our Bar, Billiard, and Tank viewing. We moved the tank in March 06. Our viewing room is on the opposite side of the basement from the bar and pool table with a full bath in between. If you can, find a way to at least have a toilet. This prevents a lot of traffic up and down the stairs and makes it more comfy for company when hanging out in the viewing room. I have a life support room behind the tank and I'm finding that they are never big enough.
The Frame: We inset the tank about 1/2" and so the frame actually sits on the wall and is held by Velcro. I can remove it for a full front magnet cleaning. It is 3 different trims combined for that effect and would have been almost $1100 when I went to a frame shop. We paid $360 for the trim, my husband and step son built it and I painted it. Under $500 with labor. Good luck with the build.

HarrsCars,
Thanks for the + note on my corals and stand.
I did built it myself. (no screws or nails, all biscuts).
The 23 months is a goal, or maybe something to keep me sane.
I'd like to get into some DIY metal work and been looking around for welden stuff. Once I'm sure I know what I need I'll buy it.

I really like the ship wreck and the mast, great idea, something I'll have to make too.:)

Wow, great thinking. We never thought of buscuit joints. Can you direct me to your thread? or notes thanx, Mitz

What an original and unique idea! I can't wait to see the finished result!

Having done some snorkeling around a shipwreck in Barbados I can attest to the beauty of a shipwreck covered in corals with fish darting in and out. It is quite a sight to behold!

blufyre3,
Unfortunately, when I built the stand and canopy (sometime in 2003) documenting the build never crossed my mind.
The framing of the stand is made out of oak as well.

Not trying to steal the thread but it sounds beautiful. We have an in wall system so we didn't have to think about things like that. When I move it up stairs I'll remember that idea.
