330 gallon build thread

I ended up using a revolution skimmer. That was the only skimmer that would work in the deep water level I have in the sump, also had a tight fit and just fit perfectly. As for the tanks design I saw the tile design at MACNA Atlanta last year. The company was Reef Aquaria Design (RAD). Check them out on the internet, they were a great company to deal with. The whole design was handled by the person JR. Great company to deal with. Their phone number is 954-596-2800

mbaychuk,

two things occur to me about your tank (whose look i quite like).

the water intakes are quite low, so that if the power fails, you'll drain 60%
of your display tank water into your sump. is that an issue, or did i miss
something in the design?

i had understood that normally we liked to have at least some of teh return
skim the water surface so as to remove floating debris/scum. is that not
an issue here?

Those intakes on in the back of the tank are for closed loops they are not the returns. Look at some of the pics on page 1 you will see the closed loop design before they are mostly surrounded by rock. There are 2 external over flows for the return water. So I have 3 pumps 1 for the return and 2 for 2 seperate closed loops. You can also see the pump set up under the stand on the first page. The tile the called it keystone 1/2 inch tile.

Finally got the apex installed. I had some problems initally with the power bars being recognized by the controller, but I was very impressed by Curt from neptune and from Kenegro from reef central. Neptune fixed the problem quickly and I have sent numerous questions since about programming which are answered quickly by Curt from neptune and or by Ken.

Just wanted to give an update. The removal of the aquatronica and replacing it with the apex controller was the best idea my nephew had. After getting through some intial problems I have had to do nothing else with it, except update the software on 2 occassions which improved the functionality of it emensly, it has worked perfectly. As for the fish and corals all are doing well with no issues. Just watching all the fish and corals grow

The closed loops are great it allowed me to have nothing in the tank that shows (ex. Tunzes) and the skimmer has been running since I set up the tank and it tanks out plenty of debrie out of the water. I did have to replace the pump a few months ago because the impeller broke, I bought one on ebay. If you've read the thread this was the only skimmer that would fit under my tank stand and also work with the high water level in the sump, but no complaints. I will post some pics this weekend
