34 Gallon Solana Build

if you have an old style power head like the kind that shoots water from a nozzle you can cut the bottom off a 20 ounce soda bottle fill it with sponge or filter floss, stick the end you drink out of on the sucking part of the power head it will capture it all and clear out fast.

or if you dont want to waste salt, and dont mind running bare bottom you can just vacuum it all out I never liked sand it traps debris over time n can cause problems it usually happens after the tank is mature beautiful n been stable for years then booom Murphy's Law...

well in the interest of not throwing away money lol ill keep the sand and i do like the way sand looks. i understand inwill need to keep an eye on the levels after a few years. will probably get a few sand sifting snails and a goby to help with it

Just run some filter floss for a while. Just keep changing it like every day till it clears up. Did this in my biocube, and now in my 80. Even after rising the sand, you will still get a dust cloud that will settle after a couple days.

eh dont listen to me lol sand does look good and as long as you understand a sand bed needs to be maintained like anything else youll never have a problem
glad your not upset judging by your post it must have been catastrophic for you lol thinking you had to start over :headwally: I dont know why I told you to find an old power head lol good thinking homer...

okay so at some point (no that i broke the glass cover) im going to have to diy a lid/cover for this tank. what the easiest/most common? suggestions?

So in anticipation of the bulb coming tomorrow the fixture is mounted! 150w 15k MH coming. That plus my LEDs I hope is more than enough for some SPS and an anemone for the clowns!

And yea I saw those, I think before I get fish in the tank I'll have to buck up and buy it. I was thinking of some other options but this might just be the least amount of trouble. Thanks for the help!

Got the new bulb! This thing is crazy! Love the color and I'm pretty sure I can put anything in this tank I want with this thing. Now to find out how hot the water gets during the day...

So the lighting now is 150w 15k HQI MH and the LED fixture. I would think that is more than enough for anything I would want. The only thing I haven't had to deal with is acclimating fish and corals to a higher light source than they are used to.

Anyone want to comment on the status of my cycle? So I don't have to research it on my own lol
