34 Gallon Solana Build

Came down this morning to clear water and levels are all 0! I think I'm going to pick up a pair of clowns today.

Going to secure those 2 strips of actinic LEDS to the DIY cover. Got the ATO all set up. I'm excited to get this tank going

not sure why the ATO was the only pic that uploaded. Here is an FTS and the LED strips

It's not pretty but it will work! After searching online and seeing media baskets for $40 and up I decided $10 sheet of acrylic from lowes sounded better!

Clowns are great! Eating very well! They really move all of the tank I don't think they have found THE spot yet!

Forgot to mention what will be in the basket! Top is chaeto, next small compartment is filter sponges, and last is chemipure elite and biofilter media

on another note i just saw one of the clown brush the back wall a couple times in a row. in my experience that means the fish is sick... i just did a water change and replaced the filter media so the water got a little cloudy, idk if that stressed it out? really dont like the thought of losing a $50 clown in the first week

also, patrick8929 and pnewt are on in the same. just havnt taken the time to fix my tapatalk app

So clowns sometimes will sleep against the back wall, or just hang out against it,so it's not a guaranteed illness.

But if they start scratching against the sand or rock, and/or start having white spots, and you didn't do TTM before introducing them into the tank, then they probably have ich. Not fatal, very common, but does irritate them and can make them sicker if they ever get stressed.

Update: clowns look great! No spots and still eating aggressively! i havnt seen another episode of them rubbing, scratching against anything in the tank.

New additions: cleaner shrimp, long tentacle plate coral, 5 more snails and hermits. Having a bit of an algae bloom, i think ive been over feeding a tad. i also put some chaeto in the back media basket i made. I also added bio balls. Everyone seems to be happy, i plan on waiting a pretty good amount of time (a month or more) to add anything else to the tank.

i am seeing that there are some dead spots or very low flow spots. i wish mp10's werent so crazy expensive. :

Just keep the bioballs clean... Lots of siphoning out of the back chamber...

Glad the clowns are doing better.

There's always going to be dead spots. Even with two MP10s, I'm still having some deadspots in the back of the rockwork and such. That's the (ideal) draw to the Gyre pumps, that it may be enough "volume movement" to really finally defeat deadspots. But I'm skeptical. Still same price as the vortechs too... So expensive gamble.

If you have dead spots, it's not a big deal, just make sure to vacuum the sand bed in those areas with a gravelvac with water changes, or stir the sand there if you have filter pads or socks to catch the detritus. I think one of the most important parts of reefkeeping is keeping detritus suspended and capturing it once suspended. Many ways to do that, but I think that's the easiest and cleanest way to control nutrients.

just wanted to post some new pics. Iphone is not the greatest camera for this stuff. clowns are doing really well, plate coral seems to be really happy as well as the cleaner shrimp. there is a little algae i think i am over feeding some. i now have chaeto in the back chamber with a clip on LED giving it light. Hopefully that will help. Let me know what you think!

aside from the color of the clown those pics are not really the right color at all. There isnt as much blue as i want but it certainly isnt yellow like it seems.
