3rd time is the charm. My 230 gallon ELOS reboot

Quick update:

1. The replacement Giesemann Aurora seems to be working well.

2. I'm cycling the fish QT and display tank with ammonium chloride and Dr. Tim's One and Only. Thus far, I'm underwhelmed. My fish QT has been stuck on nitrite now for >7 days. My display tank has been >0.1 NH3 now for 7 days.

I cycled mine the same way about 3 weeks ago. I didn't dose ammonium chloride everyday since according to Dr Tim, you should dose only when both ammonia and nitrite are at 0. It took almost 2 weeks in my custom 130g tank, total volume 180g to finish the cycle and get a diatom bloom. I do have 4 liters of Siporax in my sump and 2 8x8x2 bricks of Maine pure to supplement for reduced LR in the display. I bet that helped in some way.

Nice tank!
I am new in the hobby and have a doubt. Are your QT independent or is connected to the sump? If is connected, how do you control the contamination of the samp and the tank?
I read some people use UV sterilizers, but if you will use it, why don't use in the sump and avoid the QT?
Thanks

Such a clean setup. The tile behind the tank looks good. Might have to think about something like that next go around as I hate cleaning off the wall behind the tank when it gets splashed. Clean up will be much easier.

Fish QT and Coral QT are separate and use canister filters for biological and mechanical filtration. So far, only the fish QT is up and running. I have 3 bicolor anthias in them (unfortunately I was given 3 males...grrrr), so they're separated by egg crate. But, I feed heavily and with no issues with NH3, nitrite. They are in week 3 of copper treatment.

I have a UV sterilizer on the main system and one on both the fish QT and coral QT. UV is not a replacement for proper QT. Not everyone believes in UV. However, I've always had personal success with properly sized UVs and trust in the fact that most large, public aquariums and livestock wholesalers use UV.

any updates?

Everything is working well except my Spectrapure UHE unit...grrr.

I'm terrible at shooting pics and video...especially since I have to tweak white balance...and I'm lazy. :(

But, the angelfish are doing well. Bicolor anthia in tank in 2 weeks after Cu treatment.

I'm deciding on next fish...some schooling anthias hopefully...

Thanks Alin2,
So, do you QT have their independent overflow, etc, etc? or just separat the flow with a canister filter?
