4 Bulb T5 - It can be done!...?

This is a great topic, but don't forget that a tank's width and height makes a lot of difference.
The tank of Frank Esser is pretty well known: http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2006/2/aquarium --dimensions are not mentioned but volume seems to be 80 gallons. Also it's skimmerless.

Those are some nice looking tanks!!! Looks like I will be going with T5 when it is time to buy lighting for my new 55!

here is my 40B ran by a 4 bulb fishneedit fixture with a mix of ati and giesmann bulbs.

I have a 4 bulb tek over my 40b. Plenty of light. My Sps are doing fine, and so is the algae. Lol
Haha. Hard to say that any visual difference will translate well through my point & shoot camera.
But believe me, the German made bulbs are brighter than the Wavepoints.

What are the dimensions on your 55? Yours looks like it is the same size as mine....
I recently set up a 40 breeder with 4 39W T5's. I will try to take some pics tonight.
It is a retrofit kit with individual reflectors running off a workhorse 7 ballast. I am running an ATI blue+, ATI aquablue special, ATI purple +, and a 10k. Fixture is about 2" off the water and I seem to get some real good light. My comparison is to my other tank with 400W MH that is about 10" off the water and the T5's don't look any dimmer.

It would be nice if you would remember to report back in a few months as to how the coral colours compare in the two tanks. I realise there are many variables etc, but it would still be an indication that 4xT5 tubes can provide good coral colours. - Unless of course coral colours are very good already, then let us know your thoughts. Thanks.

Heh. It's 15 x 18 x 48 or something like that. It's actually 56.1 gallons, I actually did the math.
