40 breeder build thread. It's centered around my clownfish!

Got my stuff from BRS  Haven't opened any packages yet, but I have it  bought 7 fish nets :)
Each tank will have their own nets to prevent cross contamination of anything. Anything that is used between tanks is already rinsed in tap water, such as my siphon hose. My big tank will have some more special critters in it and that one I'm going to try to make disease free.

And...the rock

Will open that later.

Guys/Gals their items are packed and shipped really well. There are plenty of bio-degradable peanuts and they place items around each other well. It arrives in great shape and ready to use! I've given them roughly $1,000 in business since February of this year and I couldn't be happier.

Bulk Reef Supply, one of the sponsor's on here. Don't feel dumb asking a question. If you never ask you may never know :)

BUlk Reef Supply.com
It's where you buy common supplement and maintenance stuffs for a fair price. They ship fast too!

BRS is dead live rock so you don't get any hitchhikers or nasties on it. Tampa Bay is rock pulled right from the ocean and shipped directly to you. There are pro's and con's of both. You can get a lot of neat life with TBS, but you can also get killer crabs and an occasional mantis shrimp. Both companies are great, it just depends on what you want for yourself!

Yep I did turn it on. I'm also going to send it back. Not enough air flow for me.

Progress was made tonight!

First here's the overflow box from Gla$$ holes.com

Front part inside the tank:

And the top...now I was wondering how in the heck do you screw the screw on if you can't get your frickin finger in the top?!!

006-4.jpg

And that top piece pops off...yay!

008-6.jpg

All the parts. That read is Teflon tape, which it says to put on the bulkhead threads.

And it's installed! One problem. The cover that comes with it won't fit cause there isn't enough clearance. The overflow top sits right against the bottom of the rim. My hubby is measuring how much needs to be cut off the back of the lid in this picture. It needs a lid, even if turns out to just be egg crate, to keep the nem from going in.

My skimmer! The Bubble Magus Nac 3.5 something rather cone skimmer :)

I ordered the baffle cut for the fuge which will be on the right side of the sump

013-2.jpg

Measuring out how long to make the pipe along the back of the tank. Notice I put a union on the drain line...just in case I need to take it off. I will put a hook on the left side of the horizontal pipe on the opposite side of the drain to support it. Don't want to strain the bulkhead area, causing a crack!

015-1.jpg

Cut that pipe and then we are done for the night cause it's soo late. Put stuff away and put the top on the tank.

Edit:

Need to get another part for plumbing and I want to do it in the evening so my hubby is around. Trouble is I work tomorrow evening and am heading oot this weekend. And I don't have an evening off until Wednesday. It will be a few days before another update.

One observation on the clowns:
I have noticed in the last couple of the weeks that Clyde stays behind the rock area in the tank. If he comes to the front Bonnie flies across the tank at him. He's ok if he stays lower than half the height of the tank and in the back. It was almost as if he's hiding. I read in the Clownfishes book by Joyce Wilkerson that the 2nd stage of pairing is keeping the male out of choice areas...which in her case is the entire front and top of the tank. He doesn't look beat up at all and still ravenously feeds. Hopefully this goes quick and they officially bond.

They have been together since either March or Feb. and as of right now I'm watching Clyde swim along the back and Bonnie is swimming in the upper right front area of the tank.

Well here is the rock I ordered, sitting on the driveway drying off after I hosed it. Quite a bit of debris came off that larger piece at the bottom of picture. There was very little breakage in the bag and it was well packed with peanuts.

And then the finished plumbing. It went pretty well. I was surprised at how quickly the pipe would try to push back out of the fitting once it was shoved in. I held the 2 pieces together for 30 seconds, like the BRS video said to do.

Here is another one. I don't like aquascaping! It's never quite how I want it...haha! I want to keep a minimalist look, but have places for the nem to set up house.

034.jpg

Here are swim through holes on the right side

036.jpg

they work for me :D looks good
Thanks!!

I don't like doing rock work! I think this one has more spots for the nem to snuggle up to the rock on the right side.

Here it is with sand in it and then a bowl to pour the water so it doesn't mess up the sand as bad.

24 gallons in and making more water as I type!

I threw probably about 15 lbs of rock in the fuge

The only pics working for me are in the last post. It's weird because the pictures where you began your plumbing worked for me when you first posted them but now they don't.
