40 Breeder FTS Thread

thanks!
my breeder has 2x150wattMH & 4x36" T5's running over it.. the system also includes a 10g sump with PC lighting and a 15g frag tank which has 1x150wattMH & 4x24" T5's.. i run a gravity fed ATO which is plumbed through the wall into the closet where a 5g container resides.

here is the full system..

Nice set up!

D you see any bleaching of the SPS with the 2x 150w MH and 4 T5's? I am thinking about either 5 T5's (retro) or 2 T5's with 1 250W MH. I really want the shimmer and good growth.

Thanks

Been a while since I've scraped it, but it'll soon have a brand new rock wall and column! :D

This tank is as simple as I can make it: Sumpless softy dominated, Octopus BH-100F skimmer (Heaters in skimmer, vent fan next to it), VorTech MP10 set on low lagoon mode, 3X95W VHO, ATO with Kalk water, and Ranco Dual for temp control.

i originally had the Phoenix 14k bulbs on the tank and had IMO, really nice colors. i just recently changed out all the bulbs and am now running 20k radiums.. the corals didn't like the transition and i bleached the crap out of everything in my tank. i should of acclimated the corals to the new bulbs but i was lazy.. everything has been coloring back up better than ever now! I really like the 2x150MH on the tank and i've never had a problem with too much light. It gives all corners of the tank enough light to grow SPS and that has given me a lot of room for placing corals, even in low areas.

You know I just threw out the paint can (Spray paint).. but I can not remember what I used. It was a dark blue, the VHOs kinda light it up. :)

Electrobes,

Can you provide a little feedback on your skimmer and Vortech. I am currently running a sumpless/skimmerless 40 breeder (pic on page 1 or 2 of this thread) but I am considering adding a skimmer and have been looking at the Reef Octo's. Is it the right size for your tank?, how is the noise level?, etc. I'm also looking at a vortech to replace my 2 koralias but was unsure whether to get a MP-10 or 20? I only have 1 SPS and am only planning on getting a couple more at the most.

Beautiful, simplistic tank BTW!

i would go with the 40 if i were you... i have the mp10 currently and it does okay, but it will only reach 3/4 across the tank, even with a good return the mp 10 isnt going to be nearly enough. If your going sps i would say mp20 and mp10 would be bare minimum and plan on upgrading the 20 to the mp40w in the next couple years.

i got the mp 10 on a full sps 40 breeder tank i works just fine if you want ot stop by i am not to far from east Hampton

thanks!

What brand is your lighting fixture?

Tagging along. Great looking tanks everyone! I've been thinking about upgrading "down" from a 4' 55gal to a 40br or a 50gal which is a couple of inches taller. I wonder if I will miss the 48" field of view? I think the depth (front to back) of the 40br compared to my 55 will be worth the 12" loss of length.

Keep the great pictures coming

I found 40 breeders at two stores near me. One wants $100 each and the other wants $89.
I'm going to get two and use one for a sump.

greech,

any feedback on the potters you have in your tank,or is it just your avatar? does it nip at your corals or inverts?

brich1027, I beleive those are either the Aqualight Pro's or the Outer Ourbit Pro's both are great fixtures and have moonlights built in as well, I was about to but the Outer Orbit but then I had too get rid of the tank but none the less a fantastic fixture for the price.

Thats not mine but I do have one (need to replace the avatar pic). I can't give you much feedback since I have only had her for 3 days :) I just got her in from LADD. So far she is showing no interest in corals but 3 days is obviously not enough of a test. I have always wanted a Potters since I started with my 12 gallon. I came to terms with the fact that she could nip before I bought her. If she does, my corals will go to the LFS for credit and I go FOWLR or maybe I will get another tank to keep a reef. Just a beautiful fish and a joy to watch.
