40 gallon breeder drilling question

You can always do an extrenal overflow. That is what I did. Took a dremel to the back glass at the top and the siliconed a glass box to that. I drilled the bottom of the box. (not very good pics!) I am running a 20 long for the sump.

Thanks, It was easy to do. I did break one piece of glass while drilling. But it was before I siliconed and was only $12 for a new thicker 3/8" piece. The dremel on tank went quick and easy.

35lbs of Huni LR will be showing up at more door sometime today. I am excited and nervous. Still need to work some things out like ATO. My lights (ATI t5) are on preoder, so it will be awhile for that.

Not sure what you mean by the water level being high? It easily handles my return pump and can flow much more water if needed. I am new to this so I am I missing something?

I drilled/dremeled a 14" x ~ 1" trougth (sp?) using my dremel and a "rotozip" tile cutting bit. It was very easy and took less than 10 minutes. I then had my glass shop cut the glass for the overflow box. I drilled a hole using a dimond coated bit in the bottom piece of the box. I siliconed that box to the tank. I used a piece of acrylic to cover the back wall and make the slots for the overflow.

Max if you get that tank pre-drilled, go ahead and buy the overflow kit from him too. His prices are really good.

ok so i been thinking about this over and over. If i decide to not drill and just use HOB skimmer(aquaC)+cpr HOB refuge. Would 1 nanostream 6045 and 2 maxi 900s be enuf flow for the 40 gallon? total gph would be approx. 1660
