40 Gallon Breeder-Lets see Em'

I want to see any pics you all have of your 40 gallon breeders. I want to set one up, just curious to see how other people have done it. Would love to see FTS, ligting, plumbing and overflows, Thanks.

Thats a coincidence, I am setting up a 40 Breeder as well, it will be my first Saltwater tank, but I have been doing FW for my whole life. I am getting a bunch of stuff from a friend who is giving me a drilled 40 Breeder w/overflow and bulkhead , Prizm skimmer (not ideal but it is free) a PC light fixture, some live Rock, and some sand. I have built the stand already, and have put baffles in a 10g for a sump. I have test kits for Ammonia Nitrate, Nitrite, Calcium, phosphate and CH.

I plan on using RO water to start off, a shrimp, some snails, crabs, and other inverts and put in 1 or 2 clownfish to start from there idk but maybe some soft corals and we will see what else. This is all speculating though.

Keep me informed on how yours is going. Good Luck!

I haven't bought anything yet, I have a 10 gallon up and running that has been going good but its time to upgrade. I want to go with a 40Breeder, I have a 40 Long sitting in my living room empty but I don't want to use it, no depth for aquascaping. I plan on either all T5's or a MH and T5, chiller, and maybe a pc or two that I can dim for dusk to dawn effect and about 30-40 gallon sump/fuge. I also have a euro-reef skimmer sittin in a box waiting for action. Hope everything goes well, your in the right place to start up a tank.
Is the LR and sand out of someone elses tank?

yeah, he has a 120 display with probly close to 300 gallons of fuge, sump, and a huge tub with live rock in it. The sand is not live, it is just extra he had lyin around.

I started my 40B about 2.5 months ago... here it is..it is sumpless..I am using a aquaclear 500 HOB, 2x Koralia #2, 2x MJ 900, and a Remora HOB skimmer w/mj1200..for lighting I have the Nova Extreme T-5 fixture with 2x 460nm, 1x 420nm, 1x 10000k..i keep softies

isnt the water flow too strong in that tank with 2x Koralia #2?? or is the flow reasonable? reason im askin is that i am sorting out circulation for my 40g and im thinkin about goin with karolia's!

I now have a 40 breeder and collecting the parts to put it together. This will be a sumpless system and looking to house softies and LPS. Right now I just have the tank and 18lbs of LR. I hope to order an RO/DI this weekend. My plan is to get the following

Aquactinics TX5 (or Tek 4 bulb)
2 - Tunze Nanostream 6025's
Tunze 9002 (or 9005)
Tunze Nano Cleaner 3165
Tunze Osmolator

I started off with the idea of setting up a 10G and purchased 18lbs of uncured rock. I have it pretty much cured now but since I'm doing a larger tank I will need much more rock. I'm trying to decide whether to get 25lbs or Marco dry Fiji rock or get 40lbs of premium uncured rock.

These pictures are 2 months old. Everything has grown quite bit since now i'm looking at these pictures. woohoooo... I'll try to add updated pictures since I also now have few more corals too.

Oh by the way the tank has been broken down and now most of its inhabitants reside in a 24g AP as I am taking a serious brake from the hobby.

the_anti_honda...LOVE the rimless look of that Breeder! :D

Anyway...here is mine...was supposed to be a frag tank only...but decided to use a HOB fuge instead of a sump...so I felt I needed some LR in the tank for extra Bio...

right now holding a collection of frags I have been getting off of local reefers and some I have pulled out of my Red Sea Max...these corals will be going into a 120g setup I am picking up this weekend

Thanks everyone, keep em coming I love looking at these pics.

the_anti_honda: did you take the trim off your tank or did you
order it to be rimless?

What are you all using as far as lights, I'm thinking about using T5's but also having one MH. I can't decide which way I want to go.

James11...I ordered one of Auqatraders Odyssea PC/MH fixtures...huge thread about them here on RC...the latest version is a lot better built that the first ones...still could use a ballast up grade...which I might do sometime...but for the price, it seems like a good deal...even if you end up buying better ballast down the road. My corals are growing great with the unit...so I am happy...

Something to think about I guess when considering lighting...

Hey everyone....love the setups! Can someone post pics of their overflows and design. I am going to be drilling my 40G this weekend, and am debating on drilling the bottom or the back side....any suggestions?

Thanks!

Thanks to all of those compliments.

To answer the questions about the tank being rimless. Yes I did take a standard aga 40br and convert it to rimless.

Pretty simple to do just patients is needed and a few tools.

The trick is to cut the silicone very well on the inside and outside of the plastic with a razor blade. NEW SHARP RAZOR BLADE. Then use a dremel to cut through each corner area of the aquarium trim and use channel locks to pry the trim off the tank length wise. If you do it short ways you will crack the tank. Use a razor while you pull to cut through the silicone. Once its done remove excess silicone with that handy razor and take a bit of the finest grain sand paper and smooth the edges of the glass.
