40 Gallon Breeder-Lets see Em'

i wish i would have started out with a 40B...looks big enough, yet small enough....and the dimensions are great!

well here's mine...just started taking it down this week though :( Sold a few corals so far and as soon as my buddy gets his tanks back up and running from his move, i'll be able to get rid of everything and sell the tank off.

And this was just a picture i liked so i figured i'd put it on here! :)

Awseome leather, I wish mine looked like that. I'm dyin to go buy my 40B but I want to wait for them to go on sale, plus I have to find someone that has em'
Keep the pics coming.

thanks james ;) I just got rid of it, but for the last couple weeks the polyps have been looking almost blueish. I really like t5's! :) Awesome colors.

those with 40B's already, how much light are you using? I just ordered a Outer Orbit with a 150Mh, 2 actinics and moons. Think thats enough?

Crackerballer,
I just bought a aqualight pro last night that has (1) 250W HQI and (2) 65W pc for cheap, guy said it was new only fired once to test bulbs, and its 36". I'll wait to see what it looks like when I get it over the tank, but I might upgrade the PC to T5.

I'm running 4x39w t5 HO over my tank and so far i've been able to grow whatever i want. I've had several sps in there and they all seem to really like the light and grow quick with very nice colors. Even had an acro that did good but i sold that off since i'm breakin down the tank now.

My lights were the icecap retro from reefgeek.com and i use the ATI bulbs. Highly recommended!!! :)

I have 2x175w Reeflux 10k and 2 39w T5 G-mann Actinic+ on mine. 1 MH doesn't seem to be enough. It doesn't hit the corners. There aren't very many places in in my tank that dont have enough light.

Dang, so what should I do with this light coming? What kind of 3 foot tank is only going to need 150w MH? Maybe a shallow frag tank of some sort?

Is 39x4 T5 that big of an improvement over a 150MH with the actinics?

IMO yes. the 150 will not cover even close to the whole tank unless its way high off the tank...at which point you're losing tons of light.

4x39w t5's are just under 120w total...so right there you're at less cost to run it (not by a lot i know, but over time it builds up). Then the fact that the bulbs last a really long time and are cheap.

sorry for the crappy pics, I'm new at this. The tank is approaching 2 months, and is my first saltwater tank.

If you're asking about salty child 79's tank, it's not a 40g breeder, it's an ADA tank, and comes that way. ADAs are all tempered though, so no drilling anywhere.

Sweet tank
I got my light in last week and it looks brand new. The legs were still in the plastic wrapping and hadn't even been opened. The DE bulb is 10K but it looks a lot bluer then I had expected.

I'm still building mine, but if you'd like you can click the red house to see the progress. Should be ready for a water test VERY soon.
