40 Gallon Custom Setup

hey calvin, i still cant believe how awsome your tank looks, keep it up. if you need some lps, i have a few i can frag, but that is for the pms and tradeing/selling forums

Dude, are you kidding me? 300 replies... I'm getting jealous of your popularity ;)

Actually, I think this thread should be moved... 40-gallons isn't a nano tank :) I didn't even consider my 20-gallon tank a nano. ;)

Still looking good...

dude this is a semi-nano, cause if you think about it, nano means small, and compared to the ocean 40 gallons is small. but oh welll what is my waisting time posting going to do ? nothing lol. hey Calvin, be looking for a split in the next few posts

If we were comparing our tanks to the ocean then even the 8-million gallon aquarium in Georgia would be considered a nano tank (since the ocean has something like 353,458,603,000,000,000,000 gallons). Right? I think it is a general comparison between the average tank in the hobby (since I said hobby, that means the 8-million gallon tank is excluded). I would guess that the average tank in the industry is somewhere between 75 and 120 gallons. From that, you're free to decide if a tank is small, nano, or micro. :)

Okay, back on topic... Eric, did you end up deciding to put a fuge where the chiller was?

-Scott

Thanks Scott, I thought about that too, but I just hate posting a 40 gallon in the reef section when everyone else seems to be 75+ I just thought I would get laughed at. :(

As for a split, I don't thing that happens until it's a lot larger thread. :)

As for the fuge, I didn't get one, instead I put the dosing pump and B-Ionic bottles in it's place. I figure the amount of nitate removal the macro algae would offer is minimal and the realestate is more key for me.

Merry Christmas guys. :)

I guess it's time for an update again...

I've added 3 new frags,
a small green A. yongei (yes Zach I went ahead and added it. )
a tiny purple A. sp (still trying to ID)
and a small forest green w/ turquoise tips A. sp (also trying to ID)

I'm placing an order with ReeferMadness either today or tomorrow (their website has conflicting dates of when they open) and then I should be done stocking (corals) and just one last fish to go (maybe)... I'll get some more pics either tonight, or after the reefermadness order get's here.

Okay, took some more pics...

Full room/tank shot...

I can't get this any more in focus for some reason, but it's purple with green polyps... If anyone has an idea of what it is, I'm all ears...

Thanks guy's hopefully in a years time it will look killer. I'm putting in a call to ReeferMadness today for some more frags, and ordered a Superman last night so if things go well tomorrow will be a good day! :)

Got my frags from Reefer Madness today, WOW! These "frags" are huge! I'll take some pics after bit, just waiting for my Superman to show up. :)

Okay I got a better shot of the Purple w/ Green polyp Acro, it's not great but I can't get the camera any closer to get a better shot...

And a small Superman frag from fragglereef It's a little browned out right now due to being under poor lighting for the last month (according to their site), but in person the polyps are orange/red and the base is a light purple, hopefully it will color up...
