Some of you may have subscribed to "Cham's Shallow Cube Build Thread", and were probably wondering who that awesome custom MRC cube was sold to... That guy would be me, lol... Thanks again to Cham, saw his tank in person, and WOW! Well, on to my build... I will be posting some of his pictures to give this thread some eye candy. Today is plumbing day, and I can only hope the tank sees water. I will be updating with my plumbing, equipment, and pics as this thread progresses, so for memory's sake, here are some pics of the tank upon Cham's receiving day......... Thanks!

Ok,
That didn't work, I tried to use pics from his thread, guess I need the pics on my computer. Anyway, I will update with some pics later today...... Sorry :(

cool, I just finished reading through his thread a few weeks ago. So I'll be following along :) I am planning to have a similar tank made myself. How do you like the height? I cannot decide whether to go 20" or lower than 20". Also, any idea what you are going to do for circulation? I am thinking a either a vortech or a nano wavebox.

Beautiful tank, and welcome to the shallow tank club.

A word of advice, be very careful cleaning any salt from the polished rim on that tank. It will scratch REALLY easy!

I'll be taggin along for this one =)

Here are some pics that I snapped yesterday, the day after I picked the tank up from cham. Here is a pic of the tank, it will be located in the Florida room in my new house, tons of windows, but very shaded if the blinds are drawn. I cannot wait to see this tank in the natural daylight.....

The tank, and I do mean TANK..... :)

My plumbing, not quite as nice as the previous owner, but serves it's purpose well.....

The sump, please forgive the corraline buildup, it has been cleaned, just done for measurements.

And the Eheim pump rated for 900gph.....

This tank will have a sandbed unlike my other tanks. I will be using an eheim pump rated at 900gph for delivery from the sump, and will use at least my tunze 6055 on a controller for supplemental flow. I have 2 tunze 6025's that are modded, but I think it might be too much flow, only time will tell. I may add another 6055 to the controller for pulsing random flow... I don't plan on needing crazy flow, I will be setting this one up with very little live rock, giving my sps plenty of room to grow to the top of the water.....

Here is my current reef, 28 gallon bb that will be going in this tank, this one will have a 3" sandbed, my clams and brain will be very happy....:) My 250 watt 14k phoenix Aqua medic pendant will be suspended at about 6" above the tank, and I think my sps will be very happy!

Looking awesome Perry!!!

Sorry I missed your call yesterday. G/F & I went out of town for the day and we just got back.

Great job and a nice simple set up that should be trouble free!

Keep us updated

That is a beautiful tank with seriously thick and well-finished sides. Have you thought much about aquascaping yet? I think a Japanese-style structure would look great in it. Check out this bonsai-inspired aquascaping.

Very familiar with that tank, I live on the sps forum...lol.. I love the minimal approach, whether it be the bonsai inspired, or euro-inspired approach. I am looking for plenty of swimming space for my fishies, and lots of room for coral grow out. The pics of my 28 will have no more/' or less liverock than will go into the 40 cube. If I can get off my dead as*, I will try and take the liverock to the tank tonight to assist in the cycling. All my corals are currently setup in a 20 gallon holding tank. When the params match, the corals will be placed in the new tank......

I moved the liverock the night before last, and so far so good. The tank is not lit at this point, I moved 2 clams and several zoo's and paly's over, and this morning opened all the blinds to the florida room, everything opened up..... At this point, I have no filtration except liverock and sand. Today I am moving the sps corals and fish, wish me luck... I will light temporarily with natural light, and a 70watt viper hang on, waiting for my aquamedic suspension cable to come in. I also plan on setting my skimmer, wiring, and all the other bells and whistles today..... More pics to come in a couple of days......

All the corals have been in the tank for a week, I finally got my suspension cables for the aquamedic spacelight 250 watt pendant. Looks good, but need to replace the 10k bulb with a 14k phoenix. Here is a pic of the sump, skimmer, and media reactor which has neo-zeo media in it. I also picked up the other neo-zeo products today, so hopefully the corals will start coloring up.....
