400 Gallon super tank, north of the border!

Very kind praise...thanks Richard!

Clearly, you found a couple of really outstanding rocks that suit the scale of my tank perfectly. I'll see if I can get some better detailed shots of the rock for posting here. Since you've posted the link, I won't duplicate pictures here.

In your standard package instructions, you say that I really shouldn't feed the tank after load of part 1...in my case, part 1 is really sort of like part 2 already. (part 1 then being the load of base rock into the sump, and sand in the display over two weeks ago)

Given the gorgonians present on this rock, should I break standard procedure and start feeding plankton etc.?

Brad.

Ready to fly!

Hey that's a crazy cool tank and build man!!!

I was tempted to ask a question etc.... but then I'd have to register on yet another board etc....

perhpas just a few new photos here with the link back to the other site for "the full story" ??

The other site doesn't have a specific area like this one dedicated to discussion about TBS rock...so I'll continue to post and reply to TBS rock questions (related to my tank), here.

Canreef gets the overview...RC gets the TBS rock details.

Here's a decent shot of the gorgonians on a single rock. I see at least 3 different types just in this photo.

Can anyone provide me with some id? Any advice as to whether these gorgonians might have Xoanthellae?...or are they 100% dependent on feeding?

All I can saw is that tank is insanely amazing.. I wish I had a fraction of the $$ it took to make that happen.

CONGRATS!!!

I do not have a good name for them but the purple one with white polyops looks like one I got from TBS about 4 months back and so far it's doing well for me, the other branching ones not so sure..... I have 2 large sections of a brown / tan one that I have grown for about 5-6 years now, they came on my first TBS rock and have been thru everything and keep growing!!

this photo might help:
http://www.figuerres.com/Details.aspx?AlbumID=8&Page=14

as for conditions they seem to be very willing to adapt to light levels and differing flows, they do catch small particles with the feeding tenticles.
the brown ones are open almost all the time, the purple one is more Off/on

I think they are carring zooxanthelle.

so as far as I can tell they should do fine for you.

you had a photo on the other site of a giant "bush"
I am at a loss on what to call that one....
if you can get some macro shots of the details we might be able to get an ID going...

Here's a shot of the first fish to move into the tank. I post it here because it is also a decent shot of how the rock is coming along.

So far, this is one very happy tang. He has been busily snacking on the assorted macroalgae. I think it really says something about the quality of the LR when you can add a mature Tang as the first fish in the tank.

With other sources of LR, you just wouldn't have the macroalgae growth yet to support a guy like this.

(Oh...and the mystery coral is easy to see in this particular shot against the dark background)

Untamed...is that how your live rock looked when it arrived? Im talking about the pic with the Tang..specifically the rock to the left in the foreground.

Thanks,

Jason

I haven't planted that stuff on that rock. When the rocks first go in, they tend to look a bit gray, but it doesn't take long for everything to spring back to colour. It's primarily red and green macroalgae and blue and orange sponges.

All the rock in that shot is TBS and I haven't added anything to it. All the gorgonians behind/right of the tang are especially nice.

Thanks for the bump and for explaining what I was missing! I've only been active on here for 2 years...I guess I'm still learning!
