40g breeder overflow.

I don't want to drill the tank. So I was curious if this overflow would work and also how do I regulate the water level? Is it by how tall the bigger pvc is or is it by how tall the smaller pvc is?

Thanks ahead of time
Jesse

They are very low flow devices. I ran one on a 30g with a 10g sump for about 18 months and during that time had it fail to restart / loose siphon twice. I would never recommend running one.

Purchase a commercial HOB overflow. You will be much better off in the long term.

Why do you say that? Gets good reviews on every site I've read. So a BMW is better then a ford just because it cost more?

Can't go wrong with a PF-300. I had one on my 40B with 10 gallon sump. Very hard for them to lose siphon they are well designed.

On my 40B I use something similar to the PF-1000. I put a standpipe in one of the outlets as an emergency overflow. There are two separate drains from the overflow box, one has a gate valve (don't use a ball valve - too hard to adjust) I use it to maintain the level in the box (keeps things very quiet), the other (from standpipe) is a straight to the sump. This setup is only single redundancy, but I've been using it for many years and never had an overflow. My return pump is a Mag-9, that also drives a GFO & carbon reactor.

Whatever you choose, I strongly suggest some form of redundancy.
