40g SPS

[Arkayology]

I have been reefing since 2009 and this is my third tank. It has been set up since October 2012 and I have been slowly stocking it. As of today, my tank has been running full-zeo for two weeks so it is relatively young in that regard. I will keep updating as things progress.

Here is what I have:
LeeMar 40g 24x24x16 rimless tank drilled three times (2 1'' drains and a 3/4'' return for herbie method)
10g no frills sump
x1 Ecotech Radion LED gen1
x2 Ecotech mp10wes
Super Reef Octopus INT 1000 skimmer
Tunze Osmolator
Mag 7 return
TLF150 Phosban Reactor tee'd in return pump for BRS ROX carbon
x2 BRS 1.1ml/m dosers for use with Bionic two-part
Live rock from marcorocks
Tropic Eden reef sand (50/50 split between reeflakes and miniflakes, good for leopard wrasses but wont blow around too much with mp10s)

Some seem faded because of the camera/light. I am trying to figure out WB, but it is slow going. Some are actually faded though as they haven't recovered from my biopellet mishap. I was using biopellets since day one until about 4 months in when they kicked into overdrive. I reduced the amount but they kept going. I lost a couple colonies because of it. Things are starting to look better.

Its true. I want to get a top-down photo box to attach to my dslr to try and get some better pics of the colors I get. It might help... though I am sure some expensive photo editing software I don't own could help as well lol.

Ya, it is weird with the RBTA because I don't do anything special for it that I haven't done for other BTA that I've kept. I feed it a piece of krill once a month and let it do it's thing. Sometimes they bubble and sometimes they don't I guess.

And the ugly... the result of zeovit in overdrive. Things are starting to get back to normal though.

Hi SoCalDude,

Sorry about your burnt tips. As you already pointed out, it is a sign of aggressive use of the zeo media. I use 300ml of the zeo media on 150g net. I only use 1/3 cup of carbon. The flow through your reactor should be enough to fill a 16oz cup every 8-9 seconds. I also recommend you begin to feed a high quality food such as an oyster egg food. There is a new version of oyster eggs on Ebay. Haven't tried it yet, but it looks promising. Ensure that you are testing your water so you know exactly how your nutrients react to your filtration and feeding. Try to keep your phosphates at .02-.03. Nitrates at .2. Because you use the zeo media, water changes will become more important. With your over usage of the zeo media, you have stripped your water of essential elements that will need to be replaced with water changes. I know this because I have done it myself. You also will need to begin to test your potassium. Salifert is a great kit to use. I like the brightwells Potassion (dry) for my daily additions. I'm now subscribed, so feel free to ask me any questions on your use of zeo. You will also want to keep your alk lower. Aim for 7-8. Any higher and your growth will slow. You can also develop burnt tips from the combo of high alk and over usage of zeo. Good luck and happy reefing!
