40g SPS

Wow I love this tank pretty epic nano. Great sps collection. How much are you dosing a day? Glad to see the sca 301 still kicking bass. That's what I'm planning on getting here soon for a 30g build.

Thanks man. I am dosing b-ionic. 31.5ml/day of alk and 22.5ml/day of the cal solution. My tank uses a lot more alk than cal for some reason. I keep alk at around 8.0-8.5 and cal around 420-440.

Now that it's summer and the temps are getting a little higher, I've decided to put the Radion G3 back up above the tank. I am using Radiant Color Mode @ 80% intensity with the wide-angle lenses. Other than that, nothing really interesting to report. Things are growing and doing well. The SCA-301 is chugging along and is proving to be a great skimmer for the price.

Excuse the haziness of this pic. I have just got done pulling some chaeto out of the sump and it let a lot of detritus loose.

I saw you have a screen on to keep the fish from jumping out. Have you found that the screen has reduced the PAR a bit? If yes, do you know off hand how much? And in summer, any effect on the temperature of the tank?

Great looking tank! I just put a radion over my 30 shallow cube and I can't get over how purple the radiant and coral lab graphs are. How did you get your tank to look "normal" and not super blue?

I just played with the settings a bit to make sure I get that 14k look. I found that keeping the white up and the RB down a bit helped.

SoCalDude, amazing tank! I don't read through entire threads usually. But I have both this and your Solana 34. You were actually the reason why I bought my old Solana

Anyways really digging the tank. What all have you noticed about going LED > T5 > LED? I recently went full Hydra 26 from ATI 6x24 and am debating on adding two-four bulbs of T5.

Also, how are you liking the Gyre? I'm currently running two MP40's on my 56 gallon (36" wide" and am debating replacing them with a gyre.

Sorry for the late reply, I'm not on the site nearly as much as before (it makes me want a tank too bad to spend time here lol).

TBH, I didn't notice a HUGE difference between the lighting types. I believe that my corals looked "happier" as they extended more with the T5s, but as far as colors and growth T5 and LED were about the same for me, maybe a little better with the T5s. When I set up my next tank I will be using both T5 and LED, which I believe is where the sweet spot is.

I really liked the gyre. It wasn't too off-putting for me to have it in the tank since it is fairly slim and low-profile. It put out a lot of flow and my corals loved it. I think it is a good option even for a 2ft tank. I will say that it was a PITA to clean, and for that reason alone I will probably give the apex powerheads a try the next time around. I don't really trust the ecotech vortechs anymore - I've had too many noisy vortech mp10s and 40s in the past.
