Its really come together recently!

Any more close ups of the tile to the left of the tank? I love the bathroom!

Thanks, Catherine! I can take some for you tomorrow. Actually, I could take some for you tonight but it's supposed to be -13 tonight and I can't face the cold. I was running around town without a coat yesterday! Although the holiday lights shining through the clear, bitterly cold night air are a sight to see....

I hear you on the cold thing, we have a wind chill warning in effect, -45C here. I haven't left the house since Thursday...I don't expect anyone else to!

Ugh, -19F (-28C) this morning, although probably a few degrees warmer in Boulder. The "official" temperature station is at the airport and that's way out east on the plains. The mountains give us some shelter from the temperature extremes.

That said, it was still a freakin' cold walk to school this morning.

I haven't forgotten about you Catherine. Tile photos to come.... :)

Missed you at the MASC party, Andy. I was hoping to check out your new clean-shaven mug!

My RO/DI unit in the garage froze and exploded last night. :( A new, improved unit has already been ordered. :) I'm going to install it in the basement this time.

Hey Mike! Not nearly so clean-shaven at the moment. It's about time to hit the ol' razor again. Sorry I missed the party. I woke up feeling fairly awful in the morning and didn't start pulling out of it until pretty late in the afternoon (when I could take the kiddo outside and do some plumbing :) ). But, I didn't want to get anyone else sick, so I stayed away.

Sorry to hear about your RO/DI. Let me know if you need some water in the meantime. I need an excuse to fire up the big, bad Kold Ster-il unit anyway. :) Plus, you could be the first to use the dumbwaiter. :)

Thanks for the offer. I should have plenty of water to get me through until the unit arrives. The dumbwaiter is quite impressive...rather than sending water though, I would prefer to send myself. It looks like fun.

Hey Catherine, here's your tile detail:

Truthfully, we saw those tiles and designed the whole room around them.

I took some more photos, but nothing else really turned out that well. The downstairs shower is just about done (yes!!!). They still need to hang the doors tomorrow and eventually put a secondary shower head in there, but I'll be firing it up tomorrow, I guess. The painters are just about done staining all of the trim. Once they are done with that, they'll be moving on to painting the downstairs walls. The floors should be done after New Year's and it's just the home stretch after that. That's when I'll start the real fill of the tank, too!

Mike--Sorry, man, it's only rated for 75 pounds (***he says quietly, because his daughter is not quite 75 pounds yet :) ***).

Andy, looks real nice.... I love the shower man. Did you have to do something special for the water pressure to make sure that beast works at its full potential?

The tiles are just stunning! I would have done the same if I'd seen them. Did you pick them up locally or find them online? Thank you for the photo.

that shower means that now your "living the dream", in case you ever wondered what people meant by that. ;).

morrisgigantus--Thank you, sir! I'll be salty as soon as I'm able. (As an aside, my lovely bride is from San Antonio.) The floors should be done by New Year's and as soon as the smell dissipates, I'll start draining and re-filling the tanks.

spsfreak--You bet. It's a recirculating closed-loop system drawing water through the floor basin (and passing the water across an in-line heater :) ). Less water than drawing a bath and I can take as long a shower I want with no extra water. It's a great idea.

Catherine--Thanks! We found them online but have since found out that they also sell out of an arts coop that's about four blocks from here. It's Motawi tileworks, I believe, from Wisconsin, maybe. They're really expensive, unfortunately (hence the generous use of the charcoal slate, which was really cheap). But, we had to figure out some way to get them in.

Nick--Thanks! Certainly living my dream. Part of the deal with the bathroom was that we both are starting to get older and getting some pain issues. The water jets certainly help. I found out that my back issues had a different cause than age when we were halfway through the remodel, so I don't necessarily _need_ the water jets any more. (But I'm not giving them up. :) )

The truth is, 80 gallons a minute of water hitting the back of your neck doesn't hurt nearly as much as you might imagine. The water jets aren't too bad, either. I'm not sure I really understand the controls yet, though.

I am really jealous now. I just want to reno my bathroom to have something half as awesome. How about a trade? My 70s old-lady bathroom, for you awesome new one?

Umm, well. I'll think about it.... ;)

Avocado green? Orange countertops? Shag carpet in the bathroom? Oh, I've had plenty of those. In fact, after I moved out of one of my college ... er ... dumps, they tried to change the carpeting in the bathroom and realized the carpeting was the only floor left. The subfloor had rotted away completely. Eek. Sounds like a plan to me. :)

Lots of new house photos: http://www.ummfish.com/remodel.html

The metal guys showed up this afternoon with the support pieces for the outer stand sheath (if that makes any sense). These are all powder-coated stainless.

This is the access panel support for the living room side under the aquarium:

They installed metal corner pieces to trim out the edges around the glass as well as to give the frames for the access panels something to attach to.

And the bullnose on this side as well.

Great progress Andy. Powder coated stainless steel :eek2: :eek2: :eek2: you really don't want that frame to corrode do you :p
Oh, and by the way, I would send those black cabinets back as it looks like they got damaged in transit. :p
