430gal., L-shaped display

I just love this thread. Thanks so much for all of the pictures and updates. I am so impressed with the variety you are able to breed. Wouldnt it be wondeful if more in the hobby met with success like yours? Sure would make a huge impact.

Well, again tremdous job!

Thanks, Seth. Sorry it took me a while to realize you posted. My browser crashed on me once. Must have made me miss the notification.

Oh, you know. Breeding's the easy part. It's the raising that's the trick. I invite you all to try: Get a pair of something. Feed them a lot. And let me know how it's going. I'll do my best to try to help. Put a small pair of something in a 5 gal. connected to your system. Your reef'll take care of the nutrients from one little 5 gal., right? :)

So, day 13. Sorry it's a little out of focus.

very nice Andy. Or do I call you, Sir Andy now? :eek2: I had a couple of those over top-offs myself, and the nice thing is being able to evap off for a few days means it moves back slowly. The downside is a hit to alkalinity (at least in my system).

That seahorse is freakin'!! :D

Eh? I don't recall getting any letters from the queen lately. You know something I don't?

The downside is a hit to alkalinity (at least in my system).

I need to go check it. But all my calcium is going in through kalk right now, so the alk should be fairly high, yeah? I'll check it tomorrow.

That seahorse is freakin'!!

Pretty cool, yeah? Those plastic plants are getting better, too. :)

Thanks, y'all.

Marc: Well, I was originally trying to get (and was told these were) Kelloggi because they are okay at a higher temp range. So, these are making do with the temp of the rest of the system: 80-81. Sigh.

Andy,

Wow. The last time I read this thread, you were gutting your house. I haven't even had time to do anything but skim it so far, but you have some great shots in here.

I need to stop by and pay you a visit some time.

Ben

Thanks, Chuck!

And thanks, Ben. I know you are a busy guy, but let me know the next time you're down the mountain and want to come by.

It's a gorgonian (those eight tentacles are a key hint).

Here's the whole coral (no flash on this shot, so the color is a little different):

Well, I made it through the entire thread! (skimmed through at first, read all of the split, then went back and read the first thread).

Your tank is definitely an inspiration, and such cool dimensions. Having a school of tangs like yours will now always be involved in my "dream tank". Also, I was always more of a coral guy, but after hearing Matt Pederson's talk at a local event and seeing this tank and your fish room come to life I have decided breeding marine fish is something I want to do in the future. I don't think I have the space or the time for it yet, but I did pick up Matt Wittenrichs book and plan on reading it on a plane ride I'm about to take!

Thanks, y'all!

Alex--Sorry to kill your whole day. ;) I'm glad to hear that you are getting the breeding bug! Good. We're gonna need a lot of us in the next few years, IMO. You don't have to limit yourself to fish, though. There's lots of really interesting research going on right now in the field of coral sexual reproduction and we're gonna need a lot of that, too, if we want this hobby to survive.

Have a good trip! Let me know if you want more information. This is stuff I could talk about all day. :)

It's been a while since the last Seahorse photos, sorry. The fishbowl's starting to get a little nasty, inside and out, so it's harder to get good photos.

Looks like the gorgonian is growing! Look at that wee baby polyp!

Of course, that's not the same branch that I shot before, so it's not a true before and after.
