45 Galllon Cube. My dream tank...only smaller!

That's just great news!!
A very big thanks to Mrs. DIY on this great job well done :D
There has been couple or even more occasions when there was a mini flood situation in our home me and my wife handled that together. She knows the basics. Gotta keep her trained right :D
My wife's second in command when I am away and my Dad is third in command when me and my wife are away lol

Once our neighbors helped out during a tank SOS situation. So my advice to all reefers " love thy neighbors like thine wife" mmm did that come out right :D
So my tank is a community tank lol

She did say you'd have to be OCD and half nuts to want to do this in your spare time as a hobby, but she was positive about it nonetheless! Nothin like a little skimmer funk to bring a man and his wife closer together! Lol

:lmao: priceless

Thank you everyone.

On a tank related note, my wife took the reigns and did water changes on all the tanks, cleaned the skimmer and changed the gfo and carbon in the reactor. It was a lot of fun doing it together and she actually enjoyed learning and helping with it. Nothing like a pair of helping hands. That's great!

Thats awesome, Im pretty sure my tank would die without me.LOL

LOL.. She might just surprise you, Brett! LOL..

Yeah Brett, i know my wife would sell my tank off if I werent here but for real, she could likely keep it alive and well if I were to be gone for several months even. I have confidence that we all talk enough that some of the 1000's of words actually sink in. I mean my wife can name corals by there scientific name. I had no clue she listened to that stuff.

Were like turkey basting the rocks and I tell her to blow gently at the rough skinned big plated red one, and shes all, you mean the montipora? Im like :mixed::inlove: lol

Noob, youre crazy! What you do with your neighbors and wife is your own buisness...lol

sounds like we have a similar situation. I trust my wife first then I have a RC buddy that lives in the city nearby that if there were a major issue he could handle it. My nieghbor is an animal lover but is scared to death or screwing up my tank. Which is a good thing if you ask me. She wont do anything without being told to first. She did bog my tank down while I was in the hospital by overfeeding flake food meant for the plant tank but that was because I didnt have the food preportioned for her. She Just came over to the house to let the dog out and thought the fish looked hungry. oh well.

Thought I'd post some pics since things seem to be going well. Lots of new growth and good color I guess along with most of the algae issues at bay. This is strange since I looked under the tank and the skimmer cup was full so no skimming for what could be 4 days. Don't know really since I've not looked nor has my wife. I've fed about everyday still with a frozen mix of blOodworms and reef fusion. Good enough for now take care. Oh I'm doing real well too up and moving now without a walker and feeling pretty good. Still numbness and weakness in my foot but much less pain so job well done to my surgeon!

Thanks for the encouragement guys!

Just thought I'd give a quick update on things. The tank was looking a little pale and brownish so I did a round of testing(that's a feat for me right now!) and found my calcium to be a little low at 380 and my nitrate was 5-10 which is to be expected since I quit vodka before my surgery. So I dosed .4ml of vodka and 15ml of calcium. Things are looking better already. Gotta love vodka! I bumPed my calcium pump up a few seconds each hour cause my calcium is habitually low. I left my Alk alone since it is right where I want it in the low 8's.

As to me, I am doing much better. I'm able to be up and moving around on my own now but I still have numbness and weakness in my left hip and foot. Pain is better but still there. I got m staples out last week and the incision looks great. On e it's a little less gory I'll post pics. Well it's water change time so I gotta go spend quality time with my wife! Later

Hey bro!
Happy to know ur doing fine outta there!
Great that ur recovering well.
Tank's looking great too.

Just use the vodka strictly for dosing on the tank. And not an excuse to have a dose for urself lol doesn't mix well with the pain killers and meds ul be taking and definately not gonna improve any colour :D
Take care out there and I'm sure everyone here is a fan of ur wife already.
She doing a water change....seriously! How cool is that.

Happy Reefing!!

yeah noob, ive kept her for 10 years now I guess shes still a keeper! She has no idea how much I appreciate the help. Many women would laugh at someone asking them to grab the skimmer cup and clean it out but not mine. Then again she tried to convince me to let her wipe my nether regions too when I couldnt twist to do it myself! lol Being a man with tools, I figured out a much better alternative. THanks anyways though hehe

Totally awesome man!
So the nether regions of you and your tank(skimmer cup) will be shining like polished chrome! :D
Yep pretty similar clockwise-anti clockwise cleaning action eh!
:lolspin:
You convinced her to clean the skimmer cup and she convinced you to let her clean your skimmer base. Win-win situation here Chris :D
Enjoy both as long as it lasts :D

Happy Reefing!!

So, I have a question for all of you. I have given a lot of though to what I can put on the shelpf that is next to my crocea clam. I just cant make up my mind so I thought id leave it up to you guys. So what do you think? Keep it low and go with an encrusting species of monti of take advantage of the high par and go with a fe acros that can be trimmed to keep room for the clam to grow? Either way please suggest a specific coral if you would. Id be very apreciative for the help as my brain just goes fuzzy when I think about it anymore. That why its still empty. Just so you know, my wish was to find a jedi mindtrick for there but I doubt I can get ahold of one in my area without ordering online which I hate to do. TIA.

OK. I guess ill be first at bat. I think you should go with an encrusting monte. You don't want anything that will eventually starve your clam of light. As an idea, here is a picture of the tricolor/ rainbow monte that I have taken a real liking to in my tank.
