FInally got my hands on a monti undata! $20, not too shabby for this size of a piece. I also picked up a blue ridge. Its a neat coral. When you frag it its navy blue on the inside skeleton. Couldnt pass it up, never seen one before. It looks to be fairly hardy as well. I only got a small frag of it so no real good picture but ill get one as it grows hopefully.
I found a new place to get coral that I am stoked about. Its in a guys basement and he has TONS of cool stuff. WIsh I had more cash or that I would have known about him when I set my tank up. It would have much nicer stuff in it. I think im going to start swapping out my mini colonies of bland stuff for some nicer more rare sps. Now that I have the hookup that is even more tempting to do. Also I have a buddy that wants to buy my current corals so itll be good timing once he gets his tank up and going. Win win for both of us.
THe tank has been doing MUCH better lately since Im back on vodka and feeding with rods food. I think im finally over the algae issues that the interceptor treatments brought on. Now its time to work on color since ive got nutrients under control! Let the games begin!

thanks guys. It was nice to put a little time in with the tank outside of maintenence! The udata is going to go in the prime real estate that I talked about earlier until Jonathan gets me the piece hes fragged for me. Once he comes through for me then I am not sure where the undata is gonna go...probably on the bottom right rock pile. There are two tiny frags of tri color that are really starting to take off down there but it could use more sps since the zoas that ive put there arent really liking the ulns of my tank right now...I really need a bigger tank but thats just not gonna happen until im back to work so in the meantime Ill just be swapping corals to get a bit more aqua cultured stuff in there with better color.
I feel my color issues are just the genetics of the coral I have as the wild and mari stuff I have just dont have the color but my aqua stuff is as colorful and happy as can be. The tank is super healthy at the moment now that the intercveptor fiasco is behind me.

Sounds great Chris. Keep up the great work. That larger tank idea sounds like it would provide some great DIY. But I certainly understand needing to hold off awhile. I'm slowly planning a build but will be a long road before I get started. I will surely reference this thread for inspiration.

Thanks lotustar. I love to build things and its been houses for creatures that have always got me going. I really get bored once contruction is done...Ideally I should start with a pico tank then work my way 5 gallons at a time until I hit a 180. That ought to last me til im 60 at least when I wont be able to lift plywood for myself! lol

Well I reached a hell of a milestone today! I was able to do my own water changes and skimmer cleaning! As much as I enjoy doing them with my wife I just dont think she shares the same feelings...weve been gettting behind on them and slipping a few days here and there due to weekends being the only chance for her to help me and that time is spent with a rather time consuming almost 2 year old...so I just didnt want to bother her this week and dove in being careful not to lift improperly and it went off without a hitch.
My skimmer had overflown for some reason but didnt get to the spillover stage so hopefully I wont have to go through a mini algae bloom. I have cut back on the rods food as well since I was starting to see some negative affects of the nutrients in the water. Im down to once a week on the rods and twice a week of spectrum pellets. It stinks because the one blue eyed cardinal that I have left doesnt eat anything but frozen food and hes shy even with that which scares me. Hes very thin and its as if I have to make a choice between him being fat and happy or letting the coral and tank be happy. Needless to say, he doesnt fit in with my fish and I regret getting the trio now. They are just too shy to be in a tank with boisterous reef fishes. Maybe I just got a trio of duds though cause none of them took anything but frozen and the other two only accepted mysis and even still only when it hit them in the mouth so they arent around anymore. I hate losing anything in my care, I take it hard bit in this case i have to forsake one for the whole...
I think I may take some pictures this week since its been awhile since I took any. Id like to do a progression slide but im not sure I can figure it out in editing but ill give it a shot. Kudos Man!!!!!!! That's great news! I'm dealing with that same issue with my male Lyretail anthia.. He won't eat anything but frozen or live food.. The females.... no problems... they eat everything.. So, he continues to look like a crack-head even though I feed frozen at least once a day.. I try to double up the forzen feedings on the weekend, but even then it can be difficult with my schedule.. Honestly, if I could get him aout and maybe try another male, I would..
Good news glad to hear you were able to do your own water change. That is good news indeed. As for the cardinal I have never had one before but they do seem skittish from other fish around them that I've seen.

Larger sounds ideal of course but not sure about the upkeep cost vs the upkeep cost on the smaller tank. Plus the dining room / kitchen is where the family spends the bulk of our time. The living room is smaller so not used as much but has a spot avaiable for a larger tank. A decision I've been going back and forth on for months. I take a lot of time to decide.

Sorry about the cardinals. I'm having similar trouble with my tukas. Gonna salvage the 2 out of the 4 I had this weekend and transfer to a friends larger system. They do eat frozen food but that's the only thing they eat. Can't take chance with over feeding on frozens on my tank.
