470 Gallon Mixed Reef - nuxx Reef

Can i just have your sump as my tank please, 3:) Great work on your set up

LOL

I wasn't super excited about the operating height of the sump at first, but having pretty quick siphon breaks helps a bit. Guess it's better to have more volume and I picked it up for next to nothing. Not too many people wanted an 8 foot fuge/sump in town :)

Also we typically do not have power outages for more than a few minutes, which are rare anyway... so having over an hour of battery power on the returns is nice to have.

I think you made the right decision to add those two extra Kessils. They do a decent job on 24" x 24" but I think they do a better job on 18" or so. That's pretty much what you've got now and I think you'll really notice a difference in growth. And you probably don't see much shading anymore. That's the only drawback from those units in my opinion... if you do hang them to light a 24" cube, you get a fair bit of shading. Once again, terrific setup!

New Kessils showed up :)

Have a nice collection of boxes now...

Rewired and waiting on the control (stereo) cables to show up today:

I'll post a picture and/or video later when I get the other two powered up after the cables get here :)

They are roughly 18" apart. Also between braces, they are about 20-21" apart.

Were well over 24" apart before.

I really like the rock work in your tank. I hadn't really noticed it before but it's very nice. The 6 Kessils really look nice as well!

Thanks :)

Just wish the GHA would hurry up and die off. Actually need to change out the GFO today. Trying to stay on a two week changing schedule.

The little frag racks are in there for 3 weeks, just want to acclimate the new coral before mounting. Also would like the GHA to go away before mounting.

Cut the panels for the stand and put them on the magnetic frames we made.

Just temporary right mow, still need to nail them on the frames, then cut/paint and put on the borders. Then also put on the handles.

Weird to see it mocked up though :)

Good, Bad and the Ugly...

Had the following fish come in today:
Copper Banded Butterfly
Midas Blenny
(2) Crescent Tail Fairy Wrasses
Potters Angel
Hawaiian Cleaner Wrasse

The CBB, Midas and Crescent Wrasses came from Los Angeles, the Potters and Hawaiian came from Picturesque Aquatics.

The two Crescent Fairy Wrasses came in really bad shape. One was just barely breathing, the other wasn't too much better.

After acclimation, the worse of the two just floated to the bottom of the tank. The other swam off and hid. Found the worse of the two dead a few hours later. The other is hiding, or dead :(

The Copperband came in much larger than I ordered and had a broken lower piece of its mouth.

The Midas looked good.

The Hawaiian Cleaner and Potters Angel came in great, even though they had a much longer journey.

Put the CBB, Cleaner and one Crescent in together. The Potters, worse looking Wrasse and Midas went in the other 20 long.

The Cleaner keeps bothering the CBB, think it might have something on it's upper fin.

Tried to feed some juvenile live brine, frozen brine and frozen mysis. The Potters Angel, Midas and Hawaiian Cleaner showed interest. The CBB didn't eat and I never saw the one remaining Crescent.

Happy about the Hawaiian Cleaner showing interest in food. It definitely picked at some food out of the water column.

The Midas is an aggressive eater and the Potters picked at a lot of pieces of food.

Also the Potters and Hawaiian Cleaner are not afraid of me at all.

I feel the 2nd Crescent Wrasse and CBB will not make it.

So looking at a Hawaiian Cleaner, Potters Angel and Midas making it through this round. Also have the Bandit Angel coming this weekend.

QT for Bandit, waiting on HOB filter and changing to a bubbler with large bubbles on the left.

Sorry to hear about the fish loss Peter. The tank is looking awesome with the 6 kessils, great coverage now. Where did you buy the magnets for the dry side for the Jebao wp wavemakers? Which ones did you buy?
My tank is also 1" thick acrylic and I'm having a hard time finding magnets that can deal with the saltwater environment.

Bought strong Neodymium magnets.

They are labeled as N48 strength and were 2x2x1".

Applied Magnets or Magnets for Less should have them.

Ask them to ship them individually wrapped. They typically ship them in a block with spacers. Good luck getting those apart safely. I shattered them trying it and sent them back. Then had them shipped individually wrapped.

These guys are not toys and can do some serious damage to you. I wrapped all of mine in bubble wrap, then black duct tape. That's how they're on the tank today. I also don't take my cleaner mag near the sides of the tank.

Here's a thread I made about them:

Here's how the magnet looked without bubble wrap/duct tape and after:

Update on the fish.

The Hawaiian Cleaner, CBB, Potters Angel, Midas Blenny and one Crescent Tail Wrasse made it through the night.

The Crescent looks colorful, and is alert and hiding where I can see him. Will try to feed again later. Going to vary up foods until I find food that certain fish like and stick with those for the remainder of the QT period. Will continue to mix in live juvenile brine until they're not alive anymore. I bought way too much.

Put a little bit of live juvenile brine in the tanks and the Potters and Cleaner Wrasse went after it.

The Crescent is still hiding under some PVC, but swam off when I pointed a little light at him.

The Midas Blenny only likes bigger food, so no shock there.

The CBB is still skittish and in the corner. I noticed what looked like ich on his fins this morning. Guessing the stress of shipping, damaged mouth and pestering Hawaiian Cleaner brought it out. Guess this is why we quarantine and also gives the Cleaner something to do/eat ;)

Will probably start with ParaGuard and Prazi over the weekend, maybe sooner if I see the feeding response increase and see the CBB eat. If it ever does with it's messed up mouth... I saw it with it's mouth open yesterday when I fed Frozen Brine and Mysis, not sure if he actually ate though. Going to try Rod's Original today.

All 5 fish in QT are still doing well.

- Midas hides a lot, but is a very aggressive eater.

- Potters is always out and about. Has a strong feeding response, but seems to spit 90% of food out. He is always picking at the glass, pvc, wires, etc... added some nori on PVC and a lot of it seems gone.

- CBB still has a messed up mouth, but doesn't seem to be hiding as much. Also seems like the Cleaner is leaving him alone. Seems to go after food and has his mouth open, but I haven't 100% confirmed he has eaten.

- Crescent Tail Wrasse hides all the time, but comes out to eat and I'll randomly see him swimming around.

- Hawaiian Cleaner is out all the time and eats very aggressively. Saw him take a larger piece of mysis/brine and eat, spit, eat, spit until it was gone.

The Hawaiian Cleaner was the biggest draw here, so hopefully he continues to do well.

Hopefully the Bandit comes in tomorrow as well.
