480gl elos braceless earthquake trap

I've had the joc for about six months or so. I put him through 2 weeks of cupramine and 8 days of prazi which i've done for all fish in the tank, no exceptions. He/she's been a pleasure, eats well, no coral munching to date, only issue was he picked on the Regal for a while until the regal turned tables on the joc. It would have been nice to add a pair, but i think for now i'll have to settle for one as i decided not to add any more fish for a while, and took my QT down.

Yup, i think they're pretty much all cable of jumping out. However, because my rock structure is now low and centered i think they are less likely than prior when i had a fairly high and wide rock structure. Most dive for the rocks if there's a problem. I had a couple whiptail breams jump same night, and only have one left of my original three. My yellow wrasse jumped about two years ago but i was there and put him back, and he hasn't jumped since. The mystery wrasse is a suspect, but so far never seen him come close to jumping, prefers to hide in the rocks. I've lost a few fish to jumping, but i also lost a couple with my old 125gl that had a full canopy. I have some netting and a screen frame in my garage as i've thought about putting something on to protect against jumpers, but just can't get over the cost in terms of looks and ease of access.

Big changes mostly completed. I got tired of the bright lights, the noise and the smell (although i like the smell the wife not so much). Decided to build in the rimless after the fact, so built around the tank. Access has suffered, but what can you do?

I also changed the lights from Giesemman Spectra to 3 lumenmax with 4 LED strips and 2 110watt VHO actinic bulbs. I copied another thread here using aluminum tubing and installed a remote controlled lift, so i can work without frying myself.

Magnifica still doing great, stings sps around it but boxed in now. Clowns still in there, but i barely see them. I feed it once a week, usually either shrimp or raw fish. Don't want to feed it too much as don't want it to get any bigger.

wow, I have to agree with your wife, looks very nice, very well done, like a beautiful living piece of furniture

On the downside, i've been feeding too much (about 4 to 6 times a day), trying to keep my Moorish Idol, Copperband, Achilles Tang, Regal Angel, Thornback Cowfish and other fussy critters happy. Getting a little GHA and some cyno. I've battled cyno off and on for years, even when my parameters were great, but GHA is a new one for me and i'd better cut back the food a bit. I also think i may have skimped a bit on my sand level in my refugium and the 4" i originally put in is down to about 3.5" or less, and i think that may have allowed my nitrates to get up from 0 to current 2ppm. I'm going to add some sand depth to the refugium soon.

My good camera's at the shop, so pictures not that great but here's another from the front but a little closer up:

Other changes, I added three pieces of black acylic to the back to give it a black background that i could still take out and clean. I also swapped two vortecs for two tunze 6250s because with the acrylic addition the glass/acylic combo is too thick for the vortecs. I also added a 250cfpm vent fan that takes air directly from above the tank out through the attic and to the outside.

The guy who built the cabinetry for us is Dan Steckline of Acanthus Custom Cabinetry. He's a true craftsman and is very meticulous. The wood is mahogany with zebra wood inserts. The living room is being redone in general around the aquarium but that's going to take another 12 weeks or so.
