5 gallon tank drill

Hello,

I am building my own filtration. Just wondering, the bottom glass for 5/10 gallon tank is tempered glass or regular? Because I want to drill at the bottom.

Thanks

All depends on the tank manufacturer..
Could be either.. Check with polarized glasses or contact tank manufacturer and ask..

Second to check with polarized glasses. If you don't know how there are many youtube videos showing one how to, just search for how to tell if glass is tempered or how to check glass tempering etc.

Just be careful with the 5 gallon tank. The glass is super thin so you have to be extremely careful when drilling or it will crack.

Not to mention ensuring that you aren't over stressing it with whatever plumbing you are installing for the life of the system..

Though the term 'drill' is commonly used, the bit isn't cutting the glass as much as its grinding it. I've never cracked glass above 1/4", but I have with the 1/8" stuff on smaller tanks. Go very slowly and carefully.
