5 watts per gallon

I know 5 watts per gallon would be good for most lps and all softy, but give me an idea on what type of sps corals i could get, and how bout clams. I have high flow and good filtration.

Watts per gallon is a terrible way of gauging light needs or animals that can be kept. 5 WPG of power compacts would not be enough for alot of SPS, but 5 WPG of LEDs could scorch everything.

What types/wattages of light do you have, what reflectors, and what are the dimensions of your tank?

thanks, and there t5's (10 of them) and there SlimPaq german reflectors, the total wattage is 330 and the tank is 36in long, 25in tall and 18in wide

I have T5s at 5 watt per gallon and can grow anything I want. SPS,LPS,Clams etc. Agreed with above, depends on what kind of light you are running.

How about .79 watts per gallon with my LEDs and i can grow SPS on my sandbed with rapid growth. I am running 24 RB @700mA and 6 NW @350 mA on my 58 using 60 degree optics So thats 39.6 watts of RB and 6.3 watts of NW for a total of 45.9 watts on a 58.

Individual reflectors or not?

But regardless, thats alot of T5 and you could keep just about anything including SPS. If you had individual parabolics you could even get by with half that assuming they are 39watts bulbs :)

James77, yup they are individual reflectors, and that is great news to hear, and now im not worried when i start adding them....THANKS
