any recs on who to purchase new 500 gallon glass tank from???
unfortunately, mine cracked the first night of set up ( reason ???) and the manufacturer instantly pointed blame without any specs or details!!!! I am currently organizing the entire thread but for now I need a good rec on purchasing a new tank...

thanks in advance!!

I hear Lemar Tanks are good...just an FYI They don't ship East of Arizona, so if you live on the west coast, look them up, if not........sorry.

I have seen a couple of nice tanks from Aquarium Obsessed... I still have acrylic myself....

Sorry about your loss! That really sucks.

You need to fight with the builder of the 500Ga little more. Starting a thread is a start but dont let it end there.........

thanks for the info and feed back....Those tanks AO makes appear really nice...I'll look into those. As far as the manufacturer of the cracked one we are currently in discussions..... he claims that since the tank arrived with no obvious crack then it cracked because of something we did or didn't do on our end ( he started this claim on the phone prior to asking for or seeing any stand design or set up details ect.) 13 holes were drilled in the bottom panel of glass ( 8 for a closed loop, and the other four for the center island overflow box) The tank needs to be viewable from all 4 sides. The bottom panel is what cracked.

thanks again for your time and I'll keep you posted on whatever resolution the manufacturer provides!

from someone who used to build tanks, 13 holes is too damn many. what thickness of glass was used?

if you want to stay glass, AO makes a nice tank, also look at miracles in glass.

for acrylic..there are really only 2 choices for me...myreefcreations and envisions.

If it's just the bottom panel that cracked, why not just replace it? All of the sides should be sitting on the bottom panel so it would be easy to remove it and replace it. The original manufacture should be able to do that on site.

Just my 2 cents.

sabo, I had the same concern about the number of holes in the bottom but was reassured by manufacturer that it wasn't a concern or issue!!!!! I agree about replacing the bottom panel but the manufacturer is in another state.....he is willing to cut some new bottom pieces to overlay the cracked bottom ( no charge for the glass or cuts, but I need to pay shiping)

any thoughts??????

i think 13 holes is a huge issue...unless of course your tank has a 1" bottom. i have seen glass overlayed a cracked bottom before, and it does work. however, you need TONS of silicone and pretty exact cuts.

Go with a tank from acrylic and glass exhibits, they make glass tanks with schedule 80 PVC bottoms. An almost infinite amount of holes could be drilled on the bottom of the tank. They don't deal directly to the public however so if you need help PM me.
