50000 gallon fish tank in a home!

lol.. yeah its been posted before.... but i heard the tank was taken down because of humidity destroying the house.

you would have to encase that entire basement in concrete

image the amount of money that was spent on setting up that tank.... then the amount of money that was spent on taking it down

all that money lost.......... and nothing but 3 minutes of pictures to show for it...... what a shame

Bigger isn't always better. I think that has to be one of the uggliest tanks ever. But, I'll give them an 'E' for effort.

I haven't visited it recently, but if you go to
http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8952
at Monster Fish Keepers, it's not in the guy's basement. It's an addition to his home. The structure over it had to be replaced due to it rotting away, but I don't think that it was totally torn down unless that was a recent development.
Also if I remember correctly, the tank was/has been up for at least eleven years.

Some of you might want to try educating yourselves before ripping the guy a new one. This guy's paralized from the waist down. He had friends help him build his dream tank. Despite it's flaws I think the system is/was a great success.

Its a huge tank, but def ugly. I didnt care for it - when Im at the zoo I walk right past the freshwater fish tanks w/out looking too long

That 50,000 gallon tank is perhaps the ugliest thing I have ever seen. Size doesn't matter if there is no aesthetic appeal.

exactomundo, I could stare at a properly executed 50 gallon reef for hours, this ugly system wouldnt catch my attention for more than a few minutes. I think it was a big waste, I could only stomache about a minute of the music and the bland pool like tank video.
Looks like some of the really old, low class public aq. holding tanks I have seen B4

You gotta admit its a pretty sweet tank though. He just happens to like fish that only a mother could love. He was already having rust problems running freshwater so I could only imagine if this was a saltwater setup. Definitely a passionate guy but just chose an odd aspect of fish keeping.

I was saying you could have a sick reef tank on a MUCH smaller scale. Say 500 gallons.
For what it cost just to dig that hole you could have bought one!

I think the whole idea that he has was to be able to keep fish that he likes. In order to keep some of those fish he needed a suitable sized tank. It's no different than a SW guy building a huge tank to house the black tip reef shark that is his favorite fish in the whole world. For some people it's not about the equipment. It's about the fish.
He indicated that there are others out there that have similarly sized systems, but they never post about them because they don't want to sound like they're bragging. He said that he was reluctant to post about it for the same reason, but that he did it so that others could learn from his experiences.
I think it's an extremely short sighted, narrow minded and inconsiderate gesture to bash someone who has contributed their experience for the benefit of others.
Opinions are like ###holes and apparently there are several among us who think their's does not stink.

There could be someone out there reading this thread who has an enormous system with a breakthrough idea who will never post about it for fear of this type of reception. I hope I'm wrong.

In the words of Dark Helmet "I knew it. I'm surrounded by ###holes."
