50000 gallon fish tank in a home!

ya i posted it before on rc lounge forum. didn't even think of posting here. if you asked me, that would look a lot nicer with about 100 thousand #'s of LR and some MH's and a lot o chromis.....

I'd have to agree. That would be more to my liking as well. I plan to do a monster tank myself in a few years, but only on about a tenth of that scale. Mine of course will be geared toward a softie dominated mixed tank. So far the most difficult part is figuring out how to make it as eco friendly and utility friendly as possible.
I know. Money talks. We'll see....

Wetsleeves I could not agree more with you. Especially where the poor guy is disabled and tried to live out a dream. I don't care what anybody thinks, that is how I feel.

I wonder if there is a reason that there is no substrate in the tank?

I cant handle the evaporation from a 300 gal system, I cannot imagine the evap from 50,000 gallons. I wonder how many gallons a day evap off of that tank.

tank bottom

True but freshwater at least evaps. slower than salt right?

Also I would think BB is to avoid some of the work of cleaning a tank that big.

Wetsleeve, nobody was bashing the guy. The tank is simply not appealing to me and obviously others. When you make a project public there is going to be some criticism from others. It shouldn't matter to you that others voice their opinions about the aesthetic appeal of a tank ( I can't see why you would find it so offensive). If the owner finds it appealing than it shouldn't matter if there are those who don't like it. Remember that everyone voices an opinion and there are some who will not like it.

Yes, I agree. It is inevitable that some won't like it. What I thought was rude was how it was projected. I don't care that people express their opinions. It's the manner in which they did it.

Hopefully future posts can be a little more constructive???

Yes, they could be much more constructive. The words were undoubtedly a little insensitive to the energy and determination that someone would have put into a tank of that magnitude.

I don't know why most of you say it's ugly.. I think that "tank" is AWESOME. I guess it's in the eye of the beholder.. or maybe you just "don't like what kinda fish are in there". Or maybe because the tank is dark?

But if he takes that SAME setup, put white sand, pour some 1.026 and throw some Vlamingiis in there, it would be 100x better! But a SW setup of that magnitude would require a real seawater supply pumped into it 24/7.. that is probably why the guy chose FW instead... but yeah, more power to him and I'm glad he fulfilled his "dream" of owning a tank that huge.

Just imagine if this was a reef tank. I just calculated that if you want to raise your magnesium levels from 1200 to 1300 it would take 71.49 GALLONS of Kent Tech-M

Big tank I will give him that. (A) for effort, but for the money he spent doing that it could have looked alot better. Just think the guy spent a fortune on that thing. Dont you think it could have been built better. It is the ugliest tank I have ever seen. fresh water is cool if thats what you like. But at least make the tank look good.
