57 starphire rimless sps dominated build of a century!

Subscribed , hey how many lbs of sand is that? I am setting up the same tank just waiting on a couple more items. How is the mp40 are you satisfied with it? Also how many lbs of pukani rock is that?
Thanks.

I am in process of building my first reef....DB rimless 57.....great work....I'll continue to look for new developments....

I agree and like the idea of a DSB....but, with the size grain of sand you are using, I have read that it is not going to be anaerobic enough to realize the potential of a DSB....what is your take on this????

Just asking because I want to do a DSB in my 57 rimless with 1 mp40 like your setup (I also have 1/2 thick glass)....I am concerned that the mp40 will create never ending sand storms with sugar fine sand....but that is the grain that is supposed to be used in a DSB....no????

I've also read that possibly I can get away with this mp40 and sugar sand if I place some rock directly underneath the mp40 and adjust the wet side with the non-grated portion down....

with a 4" sand bed on a 20" rimless, that would equal approximately 15" of water depth and placing the mp40 at 3" below water surface level would mean placing it approximately 12" above sand level....I would like to know if any members have experience with this, and if I'm going to never be able to get sugar sand to settle with this setup????

Would like to hear other members opinion on this too....

Don't mean to steal the thread....but it seemed like a perfect place to ask :)

I know your "suppose" to use sugar fine for the dsb, but I didn't want a sandstorm. I have seen many people use my grain size for a dsb and have no problems so I am not worried. I already see worms starting to grow in there. If I could redo it I would use 2 mp10's instead of this 40. I cannot turn it past 50% power without it blowing **** everywhere.

I have the same setup as you with the vortec in the same position. If I had to do it over again I would do two mp10s on either side cause you get a dead spot on the left hand side of the overflow. That center overflow is a pita. I will never get a tank with a center overflow again either. And not sure which return pump you went with, but I just replaced my mag 5 with an eheim compact 2000 and it's night and day. So mug more quiet, more efficient, and controllable flow for like $20 more.

At some point I might sell the mp 40 and buy 2 mp 10... but no hurry I seem to get good flow. Here are some updated pics its been a while.. I am seeing amazing growth on my all my coral.
