LOL, nothing new to report really. Been having an outbreak of bubble algae. I bought an emerald crab tonight, we'll see how that goes....

Added a nice hammer last week, it's doing well. Battling temps as high as 82 * right now, might have to invest in that chiller after all...

good stuff man...glad to hear everything is fine...except for that bubble algae which i know it can be a pain ...Good luck

kinda ot, but what kind of chair is that?

You mean the micro suede gaming chair? No idea who makes it, my sister got it for me...I think Bed Bath and Beyond had them???

I've been following for a while, just thought I'd pop in and say Hello!

We all get the urge to "go bigger" whenever we can, but I think you made the right decision in not doing so. Hang a poster/painting on either side of the tank and see how it looks then. I imagine you will be pleasantly surprised with your framed slice of ocean. ;)
Cheers on the auto top off, I've been meaning to do something like that and had a little  when I saw yours.

Good luck with the bubble algae fight, it is a never-ending battle once you get it. And inevitably, everyone gets it somehow. We just went through a huge outbreak this summer, which is now being slowly curbed with the help of a few emerald crabs and some intermittent siphoning/cleaning. The siphoning is very easy if you have a few key items: large-diameter siphon tube (ours is from a "Python" kit, 2" ID I believe), large-diameter hose (3/4" ID vinyl), and a filter sock. Start a siphon and stick the output of the hose into the filter sock in the sump, you may have to increase your return pump flow, and pick off as much valonia as you can with a screwdriver or toothpick or chopstick. I wouldn't worry about popping them either, since that is how the emeralds eat it. We've done this a couple times with great success, our emeralds are getting large and still only eating valonia, and our hermit crabs are beginning to eat any popped bubbles as well.

BTW, you may want to turn your desk so that it points towards the tank. Otherwise, you'll be seeing the chiropractor every month with this ache in your neck, from turning your head to one side so much!

Cheers,
Marty

Some updated pics...haven't bought any livestock in a while. The wife put a leash on me.

Battling some cyano right now, the lights were at the end of their life cycle...

Just went through the entire thread, I really like what you've done.

How's that Ocean's Motion Squirt? Is it pretty loud or is it quiet? Also, how are you doing your kalk top-off? Are you using a float valve or a pump?
