58 RR in wall underway

Well, I've begun framing out the basement for additional living. After much debate, I decided on a 58 Oceanic to put in the wall at the end of the room. I have to think economically, and the big tanks I've had in the past are not in the budget anymore. The big empty space at the end will be where the tank will reside. Just need to decide how high in the wall I want it........

A lot of work going on there.

I think the 58 is a good choice where space and budget are limited. It still is 18" so it's rather stout and gives you a nice display. Much better than a 55 IMO. Of course I'm biased.

The only think I don't like about mine is the limited space below the stand.

It's nothing crazy like a 500gallon in wall project, but we have a baby on the way, and I can't spend money on livestock like I used to. Sure I'd love to buy half a dozen Maxima's and Crocea's like I could 5 years ago....

Heya, Nice thread.
I too am planning on doing something similar with my basement. I debated between going with a 58 or a 65 breeder. Both have very similar dimensions, only that the 65 g breeder is ~3-4" taller.

I'm probably going with the 65 g breeder. I like having my tank pretty tall, hence more to display.

Just a thought.

Some updated pics. I've been doing all of this by myself since my wife is 7 months pregnant. Almost done with sheetrocking the ceiling, then onto the walls.

A quick look at the closed loop. Still need to order my OM squirt. I made provisions in the loop for doing water changes, and for draining the pump for maintenance. I decided to plumb everything over the top like Melev. I had reservations on drilling the tank. The outputs from the squirt will go over the sides as well with black fittings. You can see where I started to mask off the back of the tank so I can paint it blask too.

My 20L that will be used as a sump. Need to get the glass cut for the baffles. Just making sure everything fits for now!

looking good..damn good work you do

Well, I've just about used up a 5 gallon bucket of joint compound, hoping to get this room primed soon. My son was born last week...about two weeks early, I was hoping to have the room done before he arrived....Maybe it'll be done by Thanksgiving!

Are you going to be putting carpet down there? It's really interesting to see how different people are finishing up their basements.

Yes, when everything else is finished, we are going to have the stairs and room carpeted. I put down 3/4 inch plywood on top of 1x3's to make a nice solid floor. I didn't want to put carpet down on the cement floor...maybe I'm crazy. I just don't like the feel of carpet on top of concrete...
