ok i didnt know if he left the post... lol So you dont like the store big deal. theres some other store in the area i dont like ohh well....... What everyone is saying is dont blast a store on the net if someone ask tell your problems but dont blast the store in a post thats not cool. and its really not cool to blast a new store let people make up there own minds.... I disagree. He has every right to say something about a store he was displeased with. Even if it doesn't agree with everyone else. The owner himself admitted he was having a bad day. I'm glad he posted his experience. Not because I think that what he experienced was the rule, but because he's being honest and because its something that we may all need to know. If nothing else, feedback can provide a way for the store to improve where they have fallen short in this circumstance.
Speaking of not being cool... "stiffy" and "boner" are not cool.

Ok, let me see if I understand this. It's ok to bash a person but not a store. Ok to some to say it thinking they'll read it and to others only ok if they're not to read what is said about them? This thread has been far from making sense.
I stopped replying to this thread when I was referred to as a "yard sale reefer". Called that by someone who knows nothing about me or how much I've spent on tanks. And I believe they did it for something I said in another thread a few days prior. When I read the "you must not like spending money" all I could think was "a fool and his money are easily parted". True I've bought my share of used equipment and corals from other reefers. Several times I've been extremely happy and others I've been burned hard. More negative comments about the mfgs or sellers might have helped me. I know I'll never recommend an AquaC Remora Pro to anyone. I bought it new for $235 and it's sitting in a bucket in the garage doing nothing. Sure I could try to sell it and get some of my money back, but I'd feel guilty about it. And if I ever see the person that sold me a piece of junk digital Ca monitor for $175 again I'll say something about not trusting them. And it won't be a vendetta, it will be an attempt to prevent someone else getting screwed over. People see things differently and there are multiple sides to everything. I gave mine. I wonder if others might have given negative feedback had they not seen the only person who had be flamed within a few hours.
I tried to explain my side as best as possible, and some will just never understand. My biggest complaint was that a coral wouldn't be sold to me, and the response (not by Donny) was that I don't like to spend money? How does that make sense? I left the conversation after that because I didn't want to enter a money ****ing contest by listing how I spent $5k on a 29g reef tank by the time it was lightly stocked.
And since I didn't respond to it earlier, Donny, that likely was not the rock I was specifically thinking about. The one you mentioned that unfortunately died was likely the large solitary silver/green yuma. I was interested in it and the rock with 8-14 orange yumas on it. I never counted carefully, but it was a very nice rock (would have been much more than the $80 you mentioned in this thread) and would have complimented the rock of 11 orange florida ricordea i have now. I can understand not having the store 100% by then and thus not having a quarantine area setup yet, but I wasn't told that at the time. At the time I wanted to buy it I was told "I can make more off it by splitting it up."
As for letting people make up their own minds, then I could just as equally say you should never say anything nice about a store. I have plenty nice I could say about 5th Day. They have great potential, and as I've already said I wish them well. I just see their overhead as too high. It's not how I would have done it. And to the people thinking LFS markup is only 2-3x, I'd have to see proof of that before I accept it. Some of the things a few of you have put into the calculations are just plain wrong. FYI, normal shipments don't cost most stores shipping fees as the drop is along the truck's normal route and the distributor covers the cost which is much cheaper than any of us would pay for UPS/USPS/Fedex as it's contracted in bulk. If they're not, you should find a better distributor that does.

well siffy I must say I want to just leave well enough alone, but the bottom line is you have a way with words that makes my blood boil for some reason. You made some comments in your post that made me try and understand it from your side. But then you seem to go off into dream world.
Heres what bothers me. you now say that donny told you that the rock you wanted with multiple yumas wasnt for sale cause he was gonna sell the polyps individually. That isnt at all what you said the first time. that makes even more sense than the original story. So bottom line he told you it wasnt for sale the way it was, which was the way you wanted it apparently.
As for the comment you have made several times here about his overhead expenses. Why is it any of your buissness what his overhead is? Look at his prices. If your not an idiot you should know that his prices are right in line with other LFS. So it really isnt any of your buissness what his overhead is. Is there some specific problem you have with using quality equipment? I guess I dont understand why it is so important to complain about his equipment?
Obviously you havent seen the order sheets or availability sheets from distributors for you to argue the cost of live goods or dry goods. so dont try and act like you know what stuff costs. I didnt make the comments in earlier posts as a guess. I know what stuff costs! as for shipping, you dont have a clue there either. There are a few companies that will deliver personally to the store on accasion. there live good prices are just as high as paying shipping from other distributors, and the ones here local that deliver are very hit or miss on healthy fish. so the bottom line is the stores here have there fish and corals brought in by plane, and they pay by the box for overnight shipping. If you think its free or even cheap then again you dont understand, so dont comment.
As for the comment about peoples experiences in the LFS stores, thats what this thread is all about. and so far most everyone has done it respectfully. I just feel you seem to go overboard on critisism. and your right I dont know you, Im sure you are probly a nice guy. Im not trying to say your a bad person or anything, cause I dont know you. Im simply responding to your opinion about this topic, which has to some degree been pointed at me now. As for calling you a yard sale reefer, that is a term given to anyone who seems to complain about things being overpriced. this isnt a cheap hobby, which you know if you spent the kinda money you claim to have. (and by the way I think the remora pro is an excellent skimmer if the only option you have is a hang on the back skimmer) I do agree with the CA monitor though!
One other thing. the phrase "A fool and his money are easily parted" Life isnt about money, and I hope you dont live your life around your money. Im not saying dont be careful and spend your money wisely. Im just saying If that phrase is something you live by it will not lead to happyness. Try giving some money away to someone who really needs it. It will make you feel alot better than hording it.

I said that I would not reply to your post, but Siffy the intelligence blow made me a little offended. First you start by whining about being bashed and called a yard sale reefer and then you make the quote "2 pages of posts are people who went intelligent enough to even realize this thread was about a store in Chattanooga". If you are bragging about your intelligence or criticizing others at least make sure you use the right words so that us dumb people can make sense of what you are trying to say. I agree with the iron man. However you don't have to spend $5000 on a tank to have a nice display. I think my tank looks great and it was made on a budget. It doesn't have $800 corals in it, nor does it have anything made in germany on it. But it is stable and the stuff is growing like weeds. It is soothing for my family and myself. What more could I ask for? On this note I will take my leave.

GJinn....I am not too pleased with what you wrote about coral reef. I often go into that store and shoot the breeze with the people that work there for hours. We talk about all our experiences etc. They actually go out of there way to order me things, and really help to make my aquarium great. I rather enjoy sitting around talking with them, in a circle if it so happens that way. So are you referring to me in that particular "circle" while you stand and wait for help? I see that your profile says your interests are Aquariums, PCs, Video Games, TV/Movies. Apparently you don't get out much. I guess since you are stuck inside all day, you did not realize that that particular terminology is not kosher on this public board. That also might be the reason why you were waiting for help for so long. Maybe they did not see you in the store because you are invisible due to your lack of exposure to the sun. Perhaps you don't reply to any of these posts from us because you don't want to over-exert yourself after all the strenuous World of Warcraft, Math blasters, Star Wars, and Dharma & Greg episodes. I don't really feel like getting involved with all of the mud slinging, but I feel that I must say a little since I was there with Siffy when all of this took place. Siffy did inquire about the single yuma rock as well as the one with multiple orange ricordias. He was denied a price on both items, so both of his stories were correct. I too feel that they way Donny handled the situation was a little odd for a Fish Store owner/employee since they are in the business of selling things (especially those in their for sale tanks). However, I personally don't think it's that big of a deal. If he doesn't want to sell them, then he can keep them, and not have my money. I'm sure if I had a store that there are some things that I would want to keep. The only mistake he made was putting it in a for sale tank, but apparently he didn't have anywhere else to put it.
I haven't read all of this thread so sorry if I missed some info., I mainly just wanted to clear siffy since Ironman was implying that he may be lying about some of the events that occured on that particular day. I will also say that I don't think that Siffy is wrong on his distributor cost statements, because I have seen the pricing sheets from suppliers for at least 2 LFS. This is not to say that Ironman is wrong because I am sure every LFS has a little bit of a situation. I just think everyone needs to back off from their keyboards for a bit and cool down before this thread gets closed.

Man i would be getting a frag off of everything that crossed thru the door if i owned a store.... On the priceing thing stores mark up on things are 2x for the most part there is one store in chat that does a 3x mark up really depends on the size and location of the store... How do i know all of this well I supplyed a few store's in this area with there hook ups... Ive seen the price sheets from most all the stores i know the mark up on most stuff and for the most part the mark up is the same across the board unless the store buys in very very large bulk.That is when you get clown fish for 10 bucks in stead or 25.....sale sale sale!!!!!! With this being said and after poking a little fun in this i can see siffy point and i can see 5th days point... look everyone this is a hobby ive got stores I like and stores i dont. could both parties handle this diffrent sure but its in the past........let it go and move on
Not tryin to be rude or put my nose where it dont belong but it seems some people are getting ill. Again this is a hobby we all need to try and work together make this hobby grow and learn from each other not fuss or complain.........
