Wow, very nice work indeed. Great progress. I love the work you did on your living room. I've been trying to figure out how to have my plasma and center channel rigged over my fireplace/mantle and can't come up with an idea I like. :( How bout you come over? ;)

Nice!

What's going to be the house rew in the kegorator?

I'm thinking Sierra Nevada Pale Ale for the first 1/4 or 1/2 barrel. Its still summer. I'll go with a heavier porter or scotch ale this winter I'm thinking :)

hey this thread is amazing.

your basement is looking beautiful. its a dream basement.

i cant wait for you to start the tank. omg it will be amazing.

and holy crap your living room looks great. i love the tv hanging and all.

im 100% sticking around for this process.

good luck with it all.

Only about 2/3rds of the granite went in today :( Some of the backsplashes were not cut right and need to be recut. Most of the holes need to be drilled also. I was really hoping to have teh granite done today so the last window could be finished :(

Well granite is done, last window is in but need to be stained.

I'm now starting to turn my attention to the tank. I was contemplating the sand selection, both depth and granule size.

I'm thinking about a 2-3" sand bed. Thats approximately 600 pounds of sand. The choices are:

1) Aragamax Sugar 0.1 - 1.0mm
2) Aragamax Select 0.5 - 1.5mm
3) Aragamax Seaflor Special Grade 1.0 - 2.0mm

I've never had anything as small as sugar. I hear it looks nice but blows around like crazy. I was thinking of mixing equal parts Select and the Special grade although maybe I should mix equal parts of all 3?

Any input?

I've found that whenever I've mixed sand, the larger size will eventually makes it's way to the top. It doesn't stay evenly mixed. I plan to use one size and stick with it so it stays uniform.

I agree with thechad, if there's too much variation in grain size, it eventually segregates. The select seems like a nice tight size range, but I used the Sea Floor Select and found the large fraction to be minimal and really don't see too many 2.0 mm pieces rising to the top. I'll use it again. I'd stay away from sugar, too small.

I second the no sugar. Its too fine and youll have more leniency concerning flow with a larger grain. Crushed coral would probaly look sugar like in that BEAST:lol:

I went with option 3. Aragamax Seaflor Special Grade 1.0 - 2.0mm in my tank. I ended up buying 15 - 40lb bags. Depth is really going to determine what you keep in your tank. I was shooting for 3-4" so I could have a harem of Pearly jawfish.

I had the same problem doing this in my tank...
