I'll loan you my electrically assisted bike. It'll do about 20MPH with light to no pedaling so it'll take you the better part of a day to get here, but gas free. Oh and you'll have to charge the battery after every 30 miles or so. :)

You know, I used to the Amtrack to Chicago when I was a kid. I could pick you up from the station. :)

Yep - I'll overnight it.

Actually, just kidding. I appreciate the offer though. Too bad transporation wasn't cheaper and faster. My teleporter has been down for a few days now.... :)

The first two shelving units are up. I might have some pictures tonight. Maybe Miztic can post a few of the shot he took while we were framing. They still need to be primed and painted and I still need to install the utility tub, small counter, and some more trim.

Man, This tank is gonna be beautiful when its done -

wmilas, I congratulate you on the huge amount of work so far. I have been following this thread for a while now and I eagerly anticipate your updates! This thread is already my inspiration and you havent even started on the tank!!

Well done!

Here are the two pictures I took, taken with a crappy cell phone cam:

Good lord. Were you licking that lens? Also btw pictures of those units were while they were being made.. not the end products as far as supports :)

I was running around ragged today for work, so not much got done. Did make a trip to the store though and picked up some more wood trim and the utility tub.

Cherry trim? Can you just pick that up locally? I wish I could find a local place. I put some crown up a couple weekends ago. A little caulk was necessary to fill the gaps. I was initially planning to do all the trim work in the basement in white, but when I look at where the tank will sit, I'm realizing that white base molding will clash with the dark stained cherry that I plan to use to skin the tank stand/canopy. So, I'm thinking about doing the base and door case molding in the same stain as the stand, but I'm afraid that the pine molding I picked up from Lowes won't match well with the cherry I plan to use to skin the tank/stand. The other idea is to leave the crown on the ceiling white because the ceiling is already white so I figure it won't look funny with the base/case molding in cherry. My wife wants to do everything in cherry, but the crown is already up and the heck if I'm taking that down and re-doing it! Any suggestions?

No i meant junk trim for the fish room :) Just pine 1x2's and 2x2s I'll rip down.

I personally don't like white trim. Over time the joints separate a bit (like any trim) but since its white you see the separation black line since it stands out. For all my finish work I like wood trim stained.

That being said all the minimal trim in my fishroom is all white cause I don't give a damn and the white acrylic will hold up longer :)

Gotcha. My fishroom just has caulked joints and that vinyl baseboard at the floor joint with plenty of caulk to ensure a watertight seal. I din't splurge for the trim in the fishroom. :)

I know what you mean about the split joints, but the ceiling in my basement was previously finished with drywall and it isn't perfect in some areas... caulk became my best friend!

For the first time today I cleaned the outside and top of the tank from all the grit and drywall and wood dust thats settled on it. When I was on a ladder cleaning the top from the inside, totally stretched out to clean the top all the way to the front, I dropped a towel into the tank. It then occurred to me, for the first time, just how massive this tank is. I had to shimmy up off the ladder, and put my whole head and shoulders into the tank to grab the towel.

Just. Wow. It had really never dawned on me how big it really is and just how hard its going to be to move stuff around in the tank. I either have to put a mask on, or use tongs if I need to get down to the sand bed.

Anyways I did some general clean up and assembled the utility tub. I realized its impossible to prime and paint around the thing if its installed so I'll put it in after I prime and paint. I have a busy day with the family tomorrow and with football :) If I can get some free time I'll try and finish up the woodwork and maybe start to mask off for the painting.
