Reefski, the "blue things" you mention are valonia, bubble algae. The long gren stringy thing is a strand of chaetomorpha.

Very nice pics Paul. I love the chalices.

The first chalice is a frag from a wild chalice that I saw in a store in California. As far as i know, that was the only frag they took from the colony.

Its a deeper red and brighter yellow than that picture suggests, very nice colors.

What do you call the stuff to the right of the SPS (under the LPS)? I've heard it called "pink star polyp" as well as "encrusting gorgonian". I have some in my tank and like it, but made the mistake of putting some by my digis and it kills them and grows onto their skeletons. Can't seem to get rid of it in that spot.

Have you had similar issues? Any ideas on how to manage?

I have had no issues with that coral, its pretty slow growing in my system, and I think LPS (Australomusa) keeps it in check.

This is a very stunning tank and a well documented log through the process. I just read through about 12+ pages of it and I have one question/thought and please me if it has already been addressedand I managed to look over it...

Granted I have never utilized a closed loop myself, but is there any concern about calcium carbonate build-up throughout the closed loop plumbing over time that would restrict your flow?

Everything looks great, keep up the wonderful work. I will stay tuned.

Thanks for the kind words, very much appreciated.

my experience with CaCo3 is that it gets deposited on things with heat - so pumps and heaters for the most pasrt. I have not experienced and build up in the pipes, but I do see bio-fouling. Having said that, I dont perceive a problem if a large diameter pipe is utilized.
