Yes, I have a 1/2 hp JBJ Arctica.

The foil helps a great deal, just by shielding your eyes from the bulbs.

The sump is really a series of connected tanks. A 100g takes the water from the tank. This is returned by a mag 18 thru the chiller. Also in this tank is a mag 5 that feeds a 75g refugium that is lit with 120w PC. This feeds a 50g tub which holds my skimmer (ASM G6). The water overflows from there back into the 100g.

Cool I need to come check it out. If you have the camera handy some day your messing with the tank snap a few shots.

I love all the organisms etc of the reef tank, but I am kind of mechanical and like the build up just as much as the viewing...

In the near future I will be partitioning my garage and insulating half of it. The sump system will then be revisited and I will begin construction of the actual layout I want.

The skimmer will be drilled to make it a complete recirculating unit. That will allow it to be removed from the water and reduce heat issues
 
That is a must. I would hate to have that big of a tank w/o a tank/equipment room. I have a hard enough time with crap on my 75g. It sux bad. Can't wait to see it in person. Is is 96x48x30?

yes those are the dimensions.
 
I'm really interested in what effect the skimmer mod has on tank temperature (and skimming performance). Please share as much detail as possible once you complete that mod.

I like the idea of keeping the skimmer IN the sump...just lifting it above the water. I don't trust those uniseal connections.
 
Right now I dont have much, and thats mostly because I am getting ready to rework a lot of the aquascaping. I am fitting one or two tunze waveboxes. Getting sufficient flow in this baby is difficult to say the least. I hope with the waveboxes to combat this by getting the wave motion moving a lot more of the water. That coupled with the closed loop, 2 other tunzes and 2 seios may get me nearer where I need to be.

Im also thinking of getting a set of four lumenarcs for the 400w bulbs I have on the back row of lights.

However, my next job is getting the skimmer up out of the water.

Over 250 gpm should do the trick. You could say BUH BYE!! to the cyno!! and no hanging a dozen or so pumps in the tank! I think you getting a better appreciation of the "square footage" of your new tank in more ways than one!!!:D

Won't the bigger pump be cheaper over all? It will not only replace a lot of powerheads and pumps, but should also be cheaper to run then all the pumps it would replace. By the way, how bad was that first power bill?
 
we didnt really notice an increase, if anything maybe $20 tops, but its hard to figure since the pool and the AC are being used now.

As for the cost effectiveness of the pump, not really.

The wavebox will move the entire contents of the tank (tho that may take two). A wavebox takes a staggering 17w. Compare thaqt to 500W of a larger pump. Also tunzes can be pointed where they are needed, which a larger pump can not. In the event of a power outage at least one tunze is on a UPC so it will run for at least 7 hrs.

To add a larger pump requires more holes being cut in the back panel which I am not going to do.
