Just picked these beauties up (to placate Lynn....who is unhappy I removed all my mushrooms)... a blue tipped frilled mushroom.

currently residing in my frag tank till I decide where they will be going.

Paul,

They (the mushrooms) will infect your tank. They will spread......slowly at first, then as they gain more confidence they will congregate. They will find your favorite corals, surround them, then kill them.

I've been fighting this battle fo months now (to be free of mushrooms, short of removing rock).

2ras, I don't think they will spread much, Paul is using a good amount of T5s and from what I have read mushrooms don't do well under them... So he is prob going to have to find the "perfect" spot for them...

but it is true that frilly mushrooms can grow back from nothing but a bit of flesh left behind on a rock (I know this from experience). But in general, aside from us not likely where our 'shroom had ended up, it wasn't of plague proprotions or anything in our tank.

Ray....sounds like a conspiracy theory to me.

Its true, mushrooms do that. Thats why I didnt any from the old tank to the new tank....however, my experience with the frilled ones is that they really dont grow well at all and are easily pruned. They have a lot of flesh with a small base, so cutting the cap odd is easy to stop them spreading.

They are also going in the tank bottom where there are no corals other than softies such as leathers.

Besides....they are mighty purty.....

Paul.

---tank cleaning today. Once done I will try and get some pics of the gren porites I have added. Its absolutely beautiful. Rapidly becoming one of my favorite pieces.

here is a frag of the green porites I have in my frag tank, not quite as green as the parent colony, but really a beautiful coral. I hadnt seen a green porites before now, so it was a must have.

Wow, what a stunning tank you have there. I have a fond weakest for aquascaping that depicts such realism as your tank does. Two thumbs up my friend.

Paul you need to give me a lesson on how to keep those shrooms from spreading. They are trying to take over the bottom part of my tank.

i think its the light intensity I have. Im not sure, but i dont think they like it too much, plus I pull any that look like they are spreading.

Paul, firstly I wish the green porities I got from you was that green in my tank, lol. Secondly, I have those frilly mushrooms I got from you under my T5's and they have gotten simply massive in size. I've got at least 5 large ones, about 4-6 inches across. And I've got a nice green tenticled/red bodied one thats at least 5 inches when opened up fully. I also have a really really small one like that blue/purple guy you posted. I'm waiting for him to get nice and big. If I remember correctly, the rock you sold me had 4 or 5 of them on it and after a month in my tank I had 8 or 9 of them (but I contribute that to the coral banded shrimp stabbing and chompin' em up, they grew back in larger numbers).
I love mine and plan on keeping a large solitary rock in my 150 for just them. May help to keep em from getting everywhere else if I place that rock away from anywhere they can grab hold of. and fwiw, the base on the largest of my shrooms is freakin' HUGE. Not a little tiny base, but I guess when compared with the full open cap it is "small".

Over the Holidays I had chance to get some more pictures, and was able to compare some growth patterns. Im really pleased to say that the growth I am getting is great....even tho I broke the calcium reactor on my large tank.

Anyways..... a few posts back I posted some pics of the front of the tank in shadow. Here are a few with just the front lights on.

This is the pillar of rock on the far left side.
2lhs_pillars.jpg

at the top of it are a montipora superman- from Wet pets and an encrusting green montipora that I received from Lori (saltysooner) about 6 mo ago as a frag.

superman-top.jpg

To the right of a superman is an acropora valida (purple tips) and to the left is a piece of a green bodied orange polyped monti digitata (originally from Tubs). In front of and to the left of the green encrusting monti are two frags I received around august of a purple monti and a monti with light green with bright blue/purple polyps.

This is the top of the second pillar. Its a little hazy due to it being 16 inches through the water.

greenabro_rosemilli.jpg

The main coral here is a green Acropora abroholsensis that was reived from TimV, who originally received it as a tiny frag from SeanF several years ago. In front of that is a ORA Rose millipora. To the left of these are an orange digitata (white bodied) and two blue acroporas. I believe the one at the front is a blue slimer from either Charlie or Lori. The one behind Im not sure of but was purchasd from Extreme corals.

This is a coral placed beteween rocks on the far right pillar, a blue tipped table acropora.

you can the same coral just above center of this picture of the right pillar

and the top of this pillar:

these have to be several of my favorite corals. The super bright purple pink catspaw was received from Lawboy about 10 weeks ago. If moved lower it would be more of a blue color. Thegreen Speck is a small piece of a bali green slimer. I am not sure of the identity of the coral at the top.

and a last pic: for now anyways.....
