INTERESTING! My temp drives up my PH...Thats a new one on me!

During the day, the corals are photosynthesizing and using up carbon dioxide. Thus, increasing PH. During the day when lights come on, temperature rises due to increase light intensity. At night, when corals are asleep, there's a build up of carbon dioxide with reduces the overall PH. And, when lights turn off, the temperature decreases.

If your put cheato on a reverse light cycle, you can smooth out PH fluctuation. But, not really necessary.

Things that make you go "Hmmmm..."

i just recently put my skimmer intake hose outside, so I wonder if the hotter it gets outside (and so the hotter the air is in the intake tube and eventually raising the water temp) the less Co2 is in the outside air (raising the PH)

When did you place the skimmer intake hose outside? Any venting to the outside should have a positive impact on PH. I've read that people worry about outside contaminants unless proper filtration is used. Contaminants like pesticides, exhaust, fertilizers, etc.
A stir fan to agitate surface water helps with both oxygenation and water / gas exchange with also helps with increasing PH.
Buffers do to but, has effects on Alkalinity in the tank, too.

My alk is stable so I don't buffer. I use surface agitation to get PH up to around 8.26 No outside air inlet is used on my tank.

I have a new "super sealed" house in Florida. My PH went up from 7.9 to 8.2 the day I plumbed the intake to the outside.

Your tank is awesome, btw. You can use more fish...in such a large swim arena.

Yea...I really want to load 'er up, and I thought with my "over-equipped" equipment I would have no problem with a very large bio-load..but my Nitrates are at 5 (too high in my books)and so I will wait a little longer for my Biology to really take hold.

Any progress or update with the skimmer operation?

Well, I tried all combinations of hook-ups for my skimmer:
-outside air pump pushing directly to the venturi
-outside air pump pushing through CO2 media and then on to my venturi
-venturi passively sucking from outside
..and all the above with an outside air pump pushing through my Ozone Generator and then on to my venturi

Bottom line..I have achieved the highest PH with just the passive air intake
from outside to my venturi...SIMPLE!!!!

The skimmer is pulling nicely, but no more than a quart a week.
