600 Gallon Upgrade Build

You guys you guys. Well I redid the overflows. Shouldve just kept it old school. Just a little gurgling on one side but a bigger hole in the cap should solve the problem. Now it's quieter than before.

Will post a video after I return from the car show. Maybe I can get more ideas while i'm there.

Here is the video of the filter socks after I changed the over flow. As you can see at every 10 second video you hear the gurgling. How do I fix that?

Also I added live rock to the tank to add the coralline algae to the existing rocks.

awesome scaping you have there. looks great can't wait to see it for TOTM

Thanks Lil Matty(Reef Rapper) TOTM will be a year down the road.

Hey Wayne did you consider going with a bean animal style drain? It's very easy to do and super quiet.

I probably would've If I hadn't had the sump built first. I planned lots of this build out of order due to inexperience. I guess I didn't read enough builds and took advantage of the advice that was presented.:deadhorse1::deadhorse1::deadhorse1:

If you have two returns per overflow box..you are already there for a full syphon set up! ;
-one for the full syphon return
-one for the drip return
(the third return that is recommended is just a very redundant backup to the backup)

drop all four returns into the same spot in your sump..eh voila!

i made also some stupid mistakes also like 30 inches total height stand had to go with external skimmer...

Wayne how would you have made your sump for bean overflow? Im just about to make my sump, any advice

I would've made the sump this way except for three filter socks. I love this configuration and knowing me will probably have this built.

Just watch your overflow box if the water level is dropping at the time of the gurgling then its a smaller hole that need to be made a bit larger to make the flow slower and avoid a syphon. If its just continuous gurgling with no level fluctuation the its a large hole. I have a drilled cap on top of my durso and if i take it out i hear some constant gurgling so a very large hole can also give gurgling sound.
If its first scenario try to tell which of your drains is causing the syphon ( block the other one to see if the second one continues to gurgle. Or it could be that both need a larger hole.
Going from a tiny hole to bigger you get full syphon with no holes and also with a very small hole. A bit of a larger hole and you start hearing air coming out of the tube just go a bit larger and that is usually the best setting.

That's what I did and it's all quiet and clean.

Congrats. Great that gurgling noise is quite annoying.. I like your layout of the sump . Looks like it would be a great sump...
Matt the LFS installer on my system will be working on that noise in the near future.. I may seek some help then .. Plenty of experienced comments on this subject..

I had already built that sump but I sold it later. I love my new sump as I said before but I believe I will have that style rebuilt after my finances recoup.

Well RC has great people who look out for you and suggest a way to fix a problem unless you (I mean I) totally (cough, cough) screw (cough, cough) up.

I am glad I am not alone on this board who screws up.. I will leave it at that for now.. Have to go and fix another screw up!! I caused associated with corals waiting for their new "bubbly" home... !! Laughter !!

that sump design it almost identical to mine. It works beautifully for me! We live and learn, there are plenty of things i'd do different if I could do it again!
