The Room for the Fish Tank

The Room for the Fish Tank

This is the room I will be putting the fish tank in. The measurements are approximately 16ft long by 11ft wide.

The computer desk is going out and a smaller desk will be used. I don't know if I should keep the QT tank in the same corner or move it to the other side. I am thinking I should considering thats where the computer lines originate from. The Black tub is my ATO for my other tank and it will be gone also since it will be under the tank.

I will take up the flooring and replace with some type of waterproof tile or the new harder vinyl. Put in the new stand and then the rest is history.

Here are the pictures of the tank.

Wayne, on the overflow plate, is it possible to also patch from the bottom? Hard to tell from the pics but if any channel exists in that Weld-On....Water will find it's way out!

I had patched it the same way I already did earlier. I just drilled the holes to big. That thought did cross my mind but I was afraid. I can do it but my fear will be I'll have to order longer bulkheads.

Newbie, I saw mention of a SCWD a few pages back. What are your latest plans for water flow in that monster of a tank?

I want to do at least 4 Sea Swirls. On the over flows I will be putting either some Koralias or Tunzes pointing opposite of the of the Sea Swirls. I will be putting some power heads lower on the center overflow pointing up to keep detritus suspended.

Here is a diagram of what I want to do.

Email paul@oceansmotions.com and ask him to sell you one Oceans Motions 4-way and 4 of his 1" flex nozzles. I just got a quote from his this past week and he DOES have them for sale. His web site just isn't up to date.

With the shallow rimless you have, your display will look much cleaner. It will also be much quieter and you will have more flow for your corals (with right pump).

I'll bet you can find the room under your tank for the extra plumbing since it is around the edges. Or you could go drill-less like David Saxby did with his closed loop. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_sMiFzHYFzE

Thanks but I closed the holes I had for a closed loop. I finally decided that I will not go that route. I just want to keep it simple and clean.

I have 3 sea swirls on my 450g...1 in each ft. corner and 1 in center of back wall (which is the return from my chiller).

I don't under stand your diagram with 2 'lines' going to each SS, and the 'box' in between...is it a ball valve?

Albano, you happen to have pictures of your 450 with the sea swirls plumbed in? I plan to have 2-4 1 inch sea swirls for my build so I think we'd all benefit from seeing your setup:D

will try to take some pics when I get home...front 2 are all pvc connected...rear is 1" hose... I just re-plumbed chiller last week, to get it out of fish room (1 HP)...ran almost 80 ft. of hose to move chiller to garage...strangely by doing this and keeping water flowing thru chiller 24/7...chiller has NOT been turned on...water temp has dropped 2*...outside temps were in the high 90s last week!

The boxes are proposed returns. I haven't decided to make them sea swirls or just regular return to counter the sea swirls. Maybe add educators to those.

Length of Drain Pipe

Length of Drain Pipe

The center overflow of my tank is 20 1/4 inches tall. Since I will be having two 2 inch drains, I was wondering what should the lengths of the pipes be? Should they both be the same or one longer than the other? Advice is greatly appreciated.
