600 Gallon Upgrade Build

Hi Wayne. How are things? Have you made any progress lately? I am anxious to see your baby filled with water.

I hope all is well friend.

All is not well my friend. I am not at a stand still with the build. I just for my life figure out how to do the additional 20 amp wiring to accommodate the walk around tank without anyone stepping over wire or wire being in view. If I can figure that problem out then I am cool. I still need to get the new floor down before I can make new progress and that will be done next month.

And on top of that the lower back shots that I received from the VA on the first had a negative reaction so I have been monitored ever since. it has slowed me down but has not stopped me.

I think flordia is out of water

Worse. My county had the audacity to add more chloramines and ammonia to the water because a bacteria showed up and i had to redo my whole ro/di unit from the membrane all the way down to the cartridges. My DT was looking shabby and phosphates shot up so when I checked my tds it was above 20. I was better off out of water.

-Noob mode engaged- :o ...Isn't that flow insanely strong that low in the tank for the sandbed? Is there even such thing as too much flow?

By the way, fantastic job thus far. I've truly enjoyed your build and patience is definitely a virtue. I have a 75g build on the way, still budgeting out piece by piece and doing all the reading and research I can! :reading:

You are doing a great job.

Here is another look at the same tank that you just posted about

I guess that tank is out of a LFS in San Antonio, here is a cool video of them building out their store http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCSFU5C0Hy0&feature=share&list=ULzCSFU5C0Hy0 might be a good idea to give them a call and see what they think of their tank, what equipment they are using and what they might do different if they had to build it out again.

My sandbed will only be about an 1"/1 1/2 deep. The output will be high enough that it won't disturb the sandbed. To much flow IMO only refers to the type of animals you are trying to keep.

Thank you for the compliment.

Wayne, since you are installing new flooring, why not elevate it a 1/4" on a subfloor and run your wiring beneath the actual flooring. It should work fine regardless of what type of flooring you choose (laminate, hardwood, tile). My biggest recommendation would be to run an additional wire conduit. You never know when you need to run additional wires.

Great build!

Electrical can be a PITA. Looks like your only option is in the ceiling or run conduit on the floor with a cable cover over it to keep from tripping over it.

I would run minimum 3 20 amp circuits if you have the space in circuit box. I ran 4 for my build.

I was talking to a guy helping with the remodel and he suggested something called expansion joint cover on the floor. Everything would fit right on in and I wouldn't have to worry about anyone tripping and like you said in case I have to add additional wire.

Thank you. I have been reading your build and also one of your fans of your build. The ceiling is an option and runningn it through a dry chamber. Never thought about cable cover.

I have 4 empty spaces in my electrical box so I will be running four 20 amp circuits to the tank. Atleast one for lighting and 2 for equipment under the tank.

Expansion joint covers can work as long as you aren't planning on floating the floor and your significant other doesn't mind the raised piece. If done properly, it can still look nice. What type of flooring are you using? I had another thought. If you are going hardwood or even a thicker tile or laminate, you could always route out a channel for wiring on the backside of the flooring material and do away with the need for a sub floor or joint cover.

Well the floor is concrete and my first choice was to hammer jack a trout to the stand and cover with cement but that was to much work. I am using a new vinyl flooring. It is a new form(well new to me) of what is called a tarkett (I know I misspelled this) flooring, aka girlfriend/wife saver flooring.

If you are going with vinyl flooring and don't want to jack hammer a trough, my previous recommendations are no good. I know they make rubber wire concealers used on the floors between cubicles in offices. If you don't like the look of these, you can always find a nice rug and throw it over the wires. :)

Correct me if I'm wrong but wont rug over wire = :blown::blown:?
